would it be possibe to open the jars when ready and just let the shroomies pop out the top? 2 of my jars are not wide mouth so its quite impossible to remove the cake from them so if this is possible, how would i do it? place a thin layer of verm on the top? help us out ;P

im sure it would be... u would just need to cover the sides so shrooms dont try to grow out the sides... if i were u, i would take a spoon and dig out the cake and case it...

Yes it would be possible and it has been done in the past.(Oess and Oeric)
The problem is that the light entering through the sidewalls will trigger fruiting inside the jar.
Your best bet is to wrap the jars with a black paper or something similar. Aluminium foil i not so god, since it reflects the light.
Case with either casing you like(50/50+ casing prefered), let regrow untill you see the mycelium in the valleyis of the casing, then put into terrarium.

well thanks for that, i plan on digging one out with a spoon and casing it with the others and doing what anno said with the other jar, i'll just wrap them using black masking tape i have and add a 1.5 inch layer of verm on the top, wack it in my little terrarium and wait... it will be my little experiment ;P

When I first started cultivating, I used Oss & Oeric's method (including innoculating with agar). I had good success with that. I stopped growing for awhile but picked up again recently. I took 7 jars of colonized rye, dug them out into a tray and cased with vermiculite. All was fine for a while; pinning started, and then all of a sudden it was attack of the green shit and cobweb mold! I ended up tossing the tray. 7 more quart jars were colonized at this point and wanting to stick with what I knew worked, decided to just case them. One thing I did differently was coldshock the jars. The tray that I had cased developed a lot of overlay? (I think that's what it's called? Mycelium covering the casing...) The strain I have is South American from Sporechicks, which I have just learned is from Venezuela. At the time I was assuming SA = Amazon and MushMush.com recommended cold shocking that strain. Anyway my point is, I have an great first flush popping up. I began harvesting yesterday, picking when the veils were broken. The first big boy was 27g and I've harvested 9 more just slightly smaller than that one, with many more still on their way!

Cold shocking should work with all strains. It's a common technique used by commercial mushroom growers of many species.
If you really want to birth those cakes stuck in the jar, you could try cracking the jar open like an egg.
