Does it really matter if I pack down my substrate or not?
    #3411315 - 11/26/04 07:07 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I put my substrate into jars and have put it into my pressure cooker and now I am reading in one the FAQs that I may have had to pack it down with a fork.

Does this really matter? My substrate was as loose as it was when I scooped it in.

Thanks in advance

samus

I thought you weren't supposed to pack it so it would colonize faster?

Do not pack it, not even lightly. You want it loose so the mycelium can quickly colonize it.

You should NOT pack it in AT ALL. Whatever tek you read that out of should change that.

Most things work, it may not work as well..may work better..chances are not as well otherwise it would be used normally. Never know though..

your good. the average time for spore germination is 3-6 days and mycelium forming 5-7 days. no worry gema

Okay, so let's say that you follow the "Maximum Fruiting Formula" in the PF Tek...and you don't pack your substrate...you're going to have leftover substrate. So, what now? Put it in another jar or what? Will this dramatically alter your yields?

Put it in another jar. No it will not affect your yields.

Cool. I wouldn't figure so. I mean, the needed nutrients are still there regardless. You see a lot of questions on this board that could easily be answered with common sense, but at the same time, for the inexperienced cultivator, it's the 'little things' that can destroy/prolong your whole grow.

That's what I like about the shroomery. You can sometimes tell when a veteran might be frustrated with a question, but they'll still answer it. Knowledge is not kept under lock and key here. That rocks.

Dont shake those, only shake whole grain jars, not cakes.
