Another Seed Thread - MJ *Edit - Poppy Seeds?*
    #3380111 - 11/18/04 03:17 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

If kept in a cool, dry place, will marijuana seeds stay viable for a few months or more? Thanks you guys, I know I made a very similar thread about 2 weeks ago about cacti seeds and I wasn't going to create a new thread because I did find something on the internet that said the seeds should stay viable for a long time but I want to make sure with you guys.

So let's say I was to order them tomorrow, would they be fine until April/May if kept in a cool (not the refrigerator, but still a cool place) dry place?

yeah man i had these seeds for like a year and i got them from a friend and who knows how long he had them but it was a while as he hadn't grown for quite sometime when he gave them to me. the one on the inner-right was a mutant though, it grew out one set of nodes then it just grew a leaf on the meristem ( :wtf: ) so i cut it off and it's branching out but it's behind the others. other than that though they were fine. they will be fine for a few months :stoned:

those are about 2weeks btw

Put them in a container and throw 'em in a drawer. They'll be fine.

What about poppies seeds? Now, I'm pretty sure they will last a long time, considering the fact that people will plant them in fall and they will sprout in the spring, but if kept in a cool dry place these should last a long while too, correct?

Poppy seeds will keep long, very long.

It is the high oil content of the seeds that will keep them good. It acts as a anti freeze and conservative. They are typical plants of colonisation. Meaning they can stay dorment for many years in the ground. Than after an earthslide, quake or mortar explosion, anything that disturbs the ground, they will sprout up and colonise the disturbed spot.
May "weeds" use this mechanism.

Anyway this is what coloured the fields of Flanders red with poppies. Orther type of poppies though, but it works the same for somniferums.
I know poppy seeds will keep at least for five years. And maybe even decades, but I don't know that one for sure....
