death
    #3376887 - 11/18/04 12:12 AM (12 years, 19 days ago)

i've always heard that some people can have intense fear of death. i've never been afraid of death at least to my own personal knowlege. not my own death in actuality. i always fear the death of others, like family, then i think about the death, and then i get depressed and it sucks, but that's kinda off-topic, so flurk it. i'm really (hopefully) far away from death. I figure i've got sixty to maybe seventy years ahead of (i'm not at all sure i'd like to even live that long, all old and crappin' myself, not cool), so i've never really feared it. i think about my own death, and i don't think it sounds too bad, it seems to me that i wouldn't know about myself, or my ever existence, so what's the big deal?f
i suppose that, maybe, if i were closer to death it might cause fear, but i doubt it. ( i wanted to put like a 'deep thought' smiley here, but i don't think there is one:( )

i've given you yet another topic, discuss! agh, i'm getting ferclempt!

christ this is funny: :penis:

Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?
No, says the man in Washington; it belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican; it belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow; it belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose...
Rapture.

i been super close to death a few times. one time, i try mushroom (wild, that i found and didn't check to see if they were real). i ate them, 10 mins lata i flip out, i started to cry for some reason, i look up at the sky and saw my dead brother...my friend made me throw up, then i came back. i felt weird for the rest of day. i made me appreciate life, don't take it for granted. I'm not scared of death, just scared of leaving all my love one behind.....(being Christan helps me deal with death by the way)

Im kinda of excited about death. Finally an answer to all the questions I have. Maybe I get to go to level 2. But in the mean time my instinct for survival is kicken strong as I do enjoy this rockin planet weve been given. I want to live as long as possible, but as long as I live I'll not fear death.

I'm afraid of dying, but contemplate suicide often.

Do you mean if theres nothing after you die? If so then I hope only to have enjoyed my life to the fullest before I die.

I'm afraid to die. I believe that logically we are all one consciousness and that there is no such thing as hell.

But noone can know for sure until it's too late unfortunately.

im not afraid to die. my dad has actually died, seen himself dead, and then been resuscitated. he is a diabetic. one night his blood sugar got way too low and he went into a insulin shock/attack. he was taken to the hospitol and when he was there he died in the emergency room.

he remembers watching himself laying on the table, and the doctors trying to bring him back. he heard the doctor name who was helping him. dr. smith. finally the doctors succeeded in bringing my father back to life.

when he awoke the next day, he looked at the doctor at the foot of his bed and simply said "hello dr. smith." the doctor was shocked since there would have been no way for my dad to have known that yet, considering he had been in shock when he had arrived at the hospitol and the doctor was not wearing his name tag.

my dad remembers being dead very clearly. he said that while he was observing himself from a high corner of the emergency room he had felt no pain, no worry, he hadnt felt much of anything. no regret, no sorrow, no dissapointment. he said the only thing he seemed to have felt was completion. he was pleased with the life he had lived, the accomplishments he had achieved, and the lessons he had learned. he was in no way scared of what lay ahead.

i take this story to heart. my dad is an amazing person. he has survived many things, many diabetic seizures, a few car accidents, a motorcycle wreck, he even fell off a ledge hiking outside of las vegas. and because of his experience, he never felt a fear in the facy that he might die. he would have welcomed it if it had happened. i admire this about my father, and i am now not afraid of what will happen when i die.

I dunno, i think the afterlife is the same as the beforelife.
Who's to say that our spirit's inhabiting the energy realm arnt thinking "oh shit, i don't want to get born and have to do that whole organic biological survival crap again!!"

not to take anything awau from your point, but takin unknown shroomies is abou the stupidest thing one could EVER do.

i've also always thought being blind may be cool, it'd be like a totally different experience than what i've been used to (i realise not for one who has always been blind, or for a long time). we rely so much on what we see, what if you never saw, what the hell would it be like, sounds cool to me at least :ooo:

i just saw this, and it's mad funny:  :nutkick:

Personally, I came very close to being killed in a motorcycle accident. Went head first in to a curb at 45 mph after bouncing off the hood of a '00 mustang that sideswiped me. I'll be quite truthful in saying that in that moment I felt completely at peace. No pain even though my back was being shredded by pavement, no fear at what would happen next... it was weird. I don't believe that your brain allows pain to be a factor in actual death, it's capable of shutting that off... it's just strange to think that in that situation, if you asked me how I'd react, I'd normally say I'd be freaking out... but I wasn't. It seemed OK that it was happening and that everything would be alright afterwards. I usually claim Buddhism as my only "faith" (more of a philosophy really) so I believe in the circle of life and death, just not really sure how that all works out once you actually die... I've always wondered if it'd be an instant transition or if you have the option to linger on for a while before taking on another form (unless you've attained enlightenment and now you're going to perma-kick it with Buddha... lol)... or if anything of your own conciousness will remain... It'll be an interesting experience once it arrives.

Until then, I shall live out my life trying to have as much fun as I know how.

I'm afraid of death but its something we all must deal with.  I'm not so much afraid of death as I am afraid of being apart from my loved ones, which I hope isn't the case after I die.  I guess we'll have to see what happens.

If after keeling over were able to hang around a bit, it'd sure be cool to find out what kind of other things are living and dying in the universe.... it's stupid to think this is the only place with life. That'd be sweet to be able to see, if only for that time...

Agreed but IMO once you die that's it there is no magical place you see other people your just dead & the worms get to eat.

I've never been afraid of death... Not for my own life or the life of others...

Death is part of our lives and nothing can be done against it...

I don't even want to be kept alive when I can't have a normal life anymore... I mean if I have to be kept alive with Oxygen, all kinds of meds and whatever I'd rather die... It's nature...

What happens after we die is definitely up for debate and I agree it's quite possible that we'll just rot away, but at the same time I think it's possible there is something much more to death then simply becoming wormfood. We'll have to wait and see, or wait and not see...
