Lighting in growth
    #337408 - 06/07/01 09:35 PM (22 years, 5 months ago)

I have fully colonized cakes. Cased them (5 casings). Humid as hell. large black container. perlite + spraying first 7 days. 80 degrees f. Not too humid (Correct me on this please if I'm wrong!).

For the 12 hours of light that I give them, in past I used basic flourescent lamp. But it sorta died when I tripped over it and it broke (And gave me a bad shock). new lamp. Incandescent (Standard light bulb).

Currently using blue lights. Heard they're better for growth. Not black lights, just a standard bulb bought from hardware store that's blue. Is this a wise idea? Should I use standard 60 watt white bulbs? Black lights? Or what?

Sunlight isn't an option, not really, due to way the apt sits and where the light comes in... growing area is a very dark room..

If you want more blue light, you could try special reptile lights.  But I would personally just go with the white light or a combination of the white and blue lights.

If they can get any natural light, then you wouldn't have to mess with the whole light situation. But according to what I have read, flourescent lights get a better response than incandescent.

It isnt the coulor of the light that matters, it?s the spectrum..of light f.ex. the blue specturum of light for growth..

You only need about 2 hours a day, 15 watts (minimum).
