too much light = bad?

Wondering if too much lights is bad for the mushies? Cuz there would be a butt load of pins and only a few would grow, the rest would just abort.

i dont know about light making aborts-what substrate??-but mushrooms grow their fastest during the dark times, therefore making it useful to have only enough light for pinning and to keep the direction correct.

Am in agreement w Jake.....they don't need a lot of light, just ambient light.

Check these growth parameters, and for each stage there is a recommendation on the amount of light:

okay i guess i should cover them, becuase i just let it sit there in my dining room. oh yeah and i was growing off of 50/50 verm/p-moss. they kinda suck. compared to my 12 cakes i got on top of that in another rubbermaid box.

now, the BRF cakes seems to have stronger mushies than the casing. I just dont get it.

a little experience from the past....I have incubated and maintained cakes and bags in room light...they do tend to prefer the darkness for incubation and atleas a couple of hours a day when the begin to mature..... how ever, when they start to pin, it doesnt really mater, light is only a source of direction for them...it's like a mushroom compass....

Once many years ago I experimented with different types of light. The 18" Vita lite produced roughly twice as many fruits as the 430w Sun Ago HPS. From this I came to the conclusion that more ligjht = bad = true.

once again the light question.

i am assuming that you allready understand about the pinset expectations you will achieve with various species and their varieties.

one of the four main factors affecting pinset is exposure to light. cubensis will not form pins without light triggering it.

it doesn't take a lot of light nor does it take a long exposure.

overstimulation has been known by this grower to produce too many pins which in turn overtaxed the substrate and resulted in poor yeilds, small mushrooms, and numerous aborts,

thin them out. cover them with a white sheet to block direct sunlight, shut off the light on the terraria if any.

bacterial contamination can also cause what you describe, so can other environmental factors.
