Grapefruit/Poppy Tea
    #3370702 -

I have made poppy tea on 4 occasions now, two brewed without grapefruit juice, two without. THe times made with grapefruit juice were infinitly more powerful. Just wanted to let you know.

The slight amount of acidity in the juice may have helped extract the goodies. I've heard people say they use a little lemon juice so you are probably right

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

This could be potentially quite dangerous as the potency of pods fluctuates. You'd never catch me trying that.

Yeah, the fluctuations in pods alone is a potential danger. To play it *safer* it's best to use a plain powder of consistant potency, especially when working with potentiators like grapefruit juice. To be honest, the few times I've used grapefruit in combos (never with pods though), I haven't noticed any potentiation, if anything it made the experience "less interesting".

I was reading at Poppies Org that drinking the tea in the morning catches one with a lower certain enzyme level and is more effective than later in the day. Same is true for alcohol.

I just grind up a bunch of pods, then mix them up, that way you have no problems with one pod being too strong.

personally, i eat a grapefruit. cut in half, coat with sugar, eat with spoon, wash down with poppy tea. good way to get your bitters.

Just to clarify, instead of water you used grapefruit juice and soaked the poppy mash in the juice? Interesting ... I will have to try this. Did you heat it?

you would have to heat it, but i would think that would foul the flavour. you could however blend strong lumpy goo with frozen grapefruit juice and have a sweet smoothie.
