From what I've read (a fair amount), the plant is said to very very rarely ever flower, so it can't ever produce seeds. I am pretty convinced that this is the case. As far as I know, the only way to reproduce the plant is via root cuttings. I believe there are several online dealers that sell them, and I wouldn't be too surprised if someone around these parts might be willing to send you one.
I didn't mean to seem nit-picky, just wanted to clarify. Can anyone back me up on the truthfulness of the above?

Seeds are rarely produces do to the fact that it doesnt need them. So, even when you find them the germination rate is quite low. By what I hear it spreads in the ground by growing so large the stem cannot hold it and it toples over. Then it reroots itself from the fallen over plant and creates new plants, then they grow large and do the same thing. I have read that this is how it works. Can any grower back this up? If it's true then it is a good I dea to try to grow in a bed as opposed to a pot because it wont be able to spread and reproduce in a pot.

I admit it, Im a fungal-feliac

well you take cuttings and grow em in a pot, and you are right about the reprd. usually little stems fall off and when they hit sutiable ground they root and grow.

Yeah if you want to grow it, you're gonna have to buy live plants or root cuttings and re-plant... Do a search for 'ethnobotanicals' or just 'salvia' and there are alot of garden/botany/ethnobotanical sites that sell them.

Not only do the seeds have low germination rates, they are also expensive as hell, from what I've seen.

agreed..... it RARELY flowers, even more rarely produces seeds, and probably somewhere in teh chances of one in a million is a seed ever fertile.... its just one of those plants that prefers to "divide and conquer".... hehehehe.... someone around here will probably be able to give/sell u a cutting, if not, i'm sure someone will point you in the right direction.
