Europe Gathering 2005 !!! (organizing and ideas?)

So the idea is already there to have a European gathering in the Netherlands in the summer of 2005.
lots of people are interested in coming but no one is organizing it yet!
So If you're interested in helping with organizing this gathering post here. I'll pm you my MSN messenger adress so we can discuss things :laugh:

The idea is there and now some work needs to be done. let's make this happen!! :sun:

Yes, love to see this happen. I live in the UK so only qualify to be an attendee rather than an organizer.

First I think we need an idea of numbers, if it is as popular as first thought then unless someone owns a mansion someone hosting it is out! :wink:

There are many campsites in Holland, but most campsites are very dense/crowded and there isn't much real nature in Holland, it's more like some large parks. But I think it should be possible to find a good campsite!

should change the name of the post, most people here arent Dutch. Should post as Nederlands gathering or something, but then again you are lookin for help. If I wasnt so far away Id lend a hand, kinda hard from chi-town though.

No, Holland is totally flat :smile:

The highest "mountain" here is 323m above sea level! Half of the country is below sea level...

i'm definately down for helping to organise one...i was actually thinking of calling all the old uk shroomerites to come to a new gathering and thinking of a place in europe that's best for one....netherlands seems good enough :grin:

technically, fjords only exist in Norway... (although some Alaskans might claim they have them too, they're just lying to ya). they are salt-water "rivers" of a sort, coming in from the ocean, with mountains on both sides... they look like this

actually the area in those pictures is quite renowned for the salmon fishing - also there are at least two "fish farms" right near the waterfall that you can see in the second picture...

i've never been a fan of fish, but whenever i went canoeing and camping there (the region is known as Sogn og Fjordane) I would always fish for my dinner

heheh for some reason i think the extreme anti-drug laws in Norway make Holland seem like a better place for a shroomery gathering :smile: that, and a beer costs like $5 - damn welfare states putting heavy taxes on things that harm peoples health and put a burder on the socialised medicine... :grin:

Technically, no. There certainly are fjords in Iceland, Greenland, New Zealand, Newfoundland, Chile etc. And I'm pretty sure there are fjords in south and west coasts of Alaska as well.

hmm - i remember my Nynorsk teacher telling us that Norway was the only country that had actual "fjords" - something to do with the way they formed, or some technical definition... i'll have to Google this one... :shrug:

I'm up for a gathering for sure.
Though if its in amsterdam, then its
prob best to avoid camping and just
get our own accomadation, as dam has
a wide range avalible.

sure it wont be like one of the usa camping gatherings
but its amsterdam, so that makes it pretty different as is.

most coffee shops can accomadate us for evening and
daytime meetings, so i suggest hotels, not camping.


unless we do it in the dutch country side, but as has
already been said, the dutch countryside sucks.

so i say long weekend in amsterdam, find your own acomadation, and
we can arrange some meeting places during the day and evening.

I'd be up for Christiania - only problem is the Copenhagen is really quite expensive, and some political forces in Denmark keep trying to shut the place down and build expensive apartments there....

A villa in portugal would be a good cheap option.
but the drug scene isnt as open as it could be, with
the police deciding themselves, which can prove tricky.

I think most of the shroomerites at an Holland Gathering will be Dutch shroomerites and I think most Dutch shroomerites prefer a campsite. Amsterdam is great, but it's not much different from the city where I live. Only larger and much more tourists. It's not special for me...

We are looking for a campsite at only +-45min from Amsterdam by train. A long weekend in Amsterdam is always possible for the people who want that(you only need a time and place to meet eachother), but I like the idea of a campsite near Amsterdam in nature.

About other countries; Portugal and Christiania would be great, but this will be an Europe Gathering in Holland. Fliquid started the idea and Stefan was/is trying to make this happen! It would be great if someone would organize a gathering in Portugal or whereever, wonderful idea! Make a post and make it happen! But as far as I know this will be an Europe Gathering in Holland...

I agree with ya Annom, nature is the way to go. Ive been to the Netherlands several times and Amsterdam is cool, but 2 or 3 days is enough. I like the countryside out there anyway, plus the bike trail system is amazing. I rented a bike and just rode around for a full day vearing off to hit some of the mountain bike trails then coming back to the paved stuff for a break. Got quite lost :smile:

I think camping is the way to go no matter where the gathering is cause the vibes of nature go well with hallucinagens as opposed to the hustle and bustle of the city. I ate 35 grams of wet cubes while in the city and wished I was in a forest runnin around like a madman. Maybe thats just me.

for sure, Im gonna stop over in Noordwijk too cause I got some friends up that way. I dig that little town, way laid back in comparison to Amsterdam. I still consider Amsterdam my home away from home and would be down for chillin there for a while.

There is some beautiful nature in Holland. "De Waddeneilanden" are a few very beautiful islands. De Waddeneilanden are very special because it's possible to walk to them if it's low tide.



The eastern part of Terschelling is the Bosplaat, a beautiful dune-area. At the beginning of the Bosplaat is an accommodation("De Wierschuur ") for max 70 people:





De Wierschuur costs ?625 per weekend for max 35 people. It's ?6 a night for more than 35 people.

Travel time from Amsterdam is a bit long and will costs some ?'s. 4-5 hours from Amsterdam by train-boat-bus to De Wierschuur and will costs around ?25-40 one way... just estimates...

Texel(other isle) would be better for travel times....

Well, I'm sold, as I'm a camper anyway.
I was just thinking of everyone coming from other
parts of Europe, But can see that the dutch shroomites
might be a little bored of their capitol city.

If we do it in the dutch countryside, it'll give me a
chance to source some new chickens.

Basically, I'm easy. any where in europe will do me fine.

I think it would be a good idea to decide upon a meeting place in Amsterdam for out of towners. Especially for people like me that are flying over from the states. That way we dont have to try to find the gathering area seperately, inevitably getting lost as all hell. This is of course if anyone besides me is flying over from the states.

Well Ive gotten over there pretty cheap in the past, under $300, but I dont think it will be that cheap now. I have heard of airlines giving huge discounts if you dont have check in bags. They sell the space to shipping companies and you save. Some may not be able to get a week or more worth of shit in a bag, but it has never been a problem for me. I went to Europe for a mont with only a backpack, and not a backpacking pack, but one I use for school. I'll try to find some info on this for us yanks. :wink: I'd be down to fly out there with ya Slven, If i remember correctly your in pensylavania so I could fly out of there with ya if your goin.

The red 8 is the Wierschuur.

(Dutch:) Boschplaat (4400 ha): uitgestrekt duin- en kweldergebied met zoutminnende vegetatie, dat enkele malen per jaar (bij heel hoog water) grotendeels door de zee wordt overstroomd. In het noorden worden de kwelders beschermd door een hoge stuifdijk en het Noordzeestrand. Het gebied heeft al vele jaren een Europese erkenning (Diploma Raad van Europa).

It's just an idea... Travel times to Texel are way shorter and a campsite in Noord-Holland can be as good.

Yea definately Beejay, if you're going I'll go over with you.

Packing a week's worth of stuff into a backpack is definately not a problem, any guy that has that kind of problem.. well I won't go there because this is the pub. :lol:

Anyway, all I ask is please don't schedule this the week of the NE Ohio gathering, as that's only a hop skip and jump from me and I plan on being there 100%. :thumbup:

How far away is this proposed site from down town Amsterdam?  I don't have a problem riding a bike as long as it isn't like 20 miles, especially since it would really give me a chance to experience more of your guy's beautiful country.  I've never been overseas, EVER!

any place we will camp at isn't within20 miles from amsterdam so biking is not an option. also wherever you go within 20 miles from amsterdamn it'll still be crowded :tongue:

To Texel is a 1hour train trip from Amsterdam to Den Helder and a short boat trip to Texel. That would cost ?15-20 one way.

I found something that is a little closer and aslo close to sea/dunes!
also pretty easy to reach from Amsterdam (a 45 minute train ride)

Trains tram and buses are good and cheap all over holland, i
bet there buses from amsterdam to these islands (well, the nearest
ferry point anyway) ;-)

for us coming from outside holland, amsterdam would be a good meeting point, as we might need to stock up after customs :wink:

Yeah Ill definately stop into my favorite coffee shops for supplies. I figure a pound of blueberry from the Noon will do me hehe. Well I havent found shit in ways of cheap airfare yet, but that was with me only lookin for a few minutes. Within a couple of weeks I hope to have found some deals. If anyone finds a good place for fares, including the type I talked about before let me know. I cant seem to find that info anywhere. As far as the NE Ohio gathering Im with ya Silven... I would definately like to make it to both.

Oslo? no way, man!!! If we are going to have a 2nd european gathering in Scandanavia somewhere, it's gotta be in the middle of the Danish countryside... there's a big "commune" of sorts in Jyttland that all of the founders of Christiania have retired to that I'd recommend... Oslo is just too many heroin addicts and expensive cigarettes for me :smile:

But keep us posted, Dutch-shroomerites - I'll definitely be in attendance (and probably bring along a few friends who constantly mock my love for the shroomery, just to try to convert them) as long as I'm not in India!

Good idea annom, if buses would be planned or any other form of organized transportation it would be a wise idea to contact the boating company as well. Sometimes they have a limit on gear and people per transport.

I may be able to get cheap airfare prices for people in the states. I pay my travel agent in shrooms and he gives me no commission tickets. Im sure he could hook up some cheap tickets. I got round trip tickets from austin texas to amsterdam for 550.00$...

I dont know when this meeting is planned, but in the high season the waddeneilanden especially Texel will be crowded.
But so will all areas..

Its a nice initiative, would be cool to come. IF i go I could pick up some flyers (2 persons since we have our luggage + my dog hopefully) from US and UK with the car in Amsterdam, buy supplies and drive to partyland! :laugh:

oh yeah... for the organizers, I know this is probably impossible at the time, but we should try to lock the date down ASAP. I think this is more important than the location, as plane fairs will only go up with time. If worse comes to worse, we'll all end up in a hostel in Amsterdam... oh darn :smile:

We know that. The population density of Holland is 15x as high as the pd of America. It's just impossible to organize something like the american gatherings but we try everything to find a place where it's not very crowded.

I like the date idea too.  It would really help those of us who are trying to fly over.  Even though it's only november, as Beejay said, the rates will only go up as we get closer to the gathering.

The thing is we should make it a little longer than one weekend because for people like me that are in the western side of north america, thats a long way to travel for just three days. Lets make it a week at least. And I agree we should find a forest somewhere to camp. Or at least a place to do a big shroom trip where theres not too much people?

I was under the impression we were camping already, but yea I was hoping to camp too unless someone really wants 30 or more people staying at their house. :lol:

Lol wilderness, wilderness died with the last wolf somewhere 1800.
But really it is so crowded, like someone stated before, what we call forest is a park in US or Canada.

BUT there are nice places, where silence and wildboar rule....

Very impressive to do a ritual with a pipe, and then dive in that other world, listening, standing still....

Love that!

Anyway Ill look out for a suitable place but want to know how much of us are gonna be there first,

I spoke with my boss, and he says if I we can get a signup list so we know how many people are coming, we can organize the place and provide the shrooms for the gathering. So if we could start a sign up list so we always have a current idea of the number of people planning on attending. We can then get this thing rolling. I am going to be contacting my travel agent today to see what we can work out ticket prices for you guys...

hmm I like the sound of that exept I'm wondering... that company is commercial and supplying shrooms for a gathering isn't supposed to cost much and same about the location. I can grow plenty before the gathering I think too if nescissairy. it's not the idea thatwe have to buy shrooms ya know :smirk:  :grin:

but we have to pay for a location anyway so if the place you're talking about is in a nice secluded location with some nature around or very close to it it would be awesome. please ask your boss how much it will cost.

If you are sure you're going, definately check yes, don't check maybe because you could die or something. This will help get a better idea of who all is considering coming to the gathering.

I'm down for the trip, i canceled my b.c. Canada trip to go, only have the funds for one trip but id rather go to Europe instead. also I'm from Kentucky and i found round trip tickets for 450.00 ill get the site up in a minute.

I agree. Ive been in touch with Dutchmushrooms travel agent and he'll be giving me a quote soon... I hope. $450 round trip from KY sounds great. I'd definately be down to drive there for that rate.

Silven, Im down for flying out together. Flights will probably connect in NY I'm thinking. Im not sure that there would be a direct from KY. Anyhow the more of us on one plane the better. Kykid you should post a link to that fare. I want to jump on the tickets ASAP... so I cant back out hehe :thumbup:

depending on my own situation at the time, it might be possible... only problem is you won't be able to get a "legal" job (danish immigration are a bunch of bitches, unless you are a student or a refugee), and if you don't speak danish, it might be difficult to find under-the-table work... i'll keep you updated as to my own situation and if i know any place you might be able to get a job in Copenhagen. (that is if by "there" you meant Europe in general not just Holland specifically)
