The PF classic casing disaster!

Maybe it's because I'm not yet expierenced in cultivation. But as I have growing classics in the same terrarium as the ecuadors I thought, they're both cubies, if the ecuador grows the classic will grow to! Big mistake. While conditions are the same the pf classics first flush ended up in all aborts! What has gone wrong?? Because of the fact that the ecuadors were doing fine, conditions cannot have been that bad!! Why are the classics so difficult for me? Any help would be great (for getting second flush a better one)!!

The PF strain, can be an odd one at times. You may not be doing anythig wrong, the fact that the ECU's did well means something. I believe that the ECU's are a much stronger strain though. Maybe you should stay away from the PF strain if you have such bad luck with it. Just my two cents...

It's my first trial, I have seen the posts from tom who also had difficulties with the Pf. But yet none advice is given wich helps me getting shrooms, and from shrooms prints. The one who can give me the golden tip gets an ecuador print and a pf-print!!

In my experience, PF doesn't like fluctuating temperatures..is your temp. constant? Or of course maybe the weakest swimmers got to the egg first, so to speak...PF can be an odd creature sometimes...good luck.

did you have a heavy pinset?? I grew S.A. which I am told are a sub-strain for PF's. I found that the heavy the pinset the higher the abort ratio was. Say I had 50 pins....maybe 1/2 would abort....leaving me with 25 full growns. Say I had 40 pins only 1/4 would abort...leaving me with 30 full growns. I don't know if this means anything really or not...but it was what I experienced with mine. Karen

That may be a problem indeed, fluctuating temps. I have a heavy pinset, also at the sides of the casings where they were only visible if I took it out of it's container. I completely removed all aborts that were on the casing because I saw new mycelium growing on the casing. Man I really hope second flush get's any better.

PF was selected for invitro-pinning and its ability to do well on cakes. These selections caused it to do poorly in casings. I've heard more people with PF casing failures then I have heard successes. Each strain has its strong points and casings aren't one of PF's.

I'd like 2 say I turned one casing upside down in a small terrarium. So the 50/50+ is resting on some perlite while the fully colonised rye is facing the light. I hope shrooms are gonna show up on the rye side! The other one wich had new mycelium on the 50/50+ is gonna be as it was. Will post how this works out! Peace to y'all
