Breakfast:

Large carton of quaker oatmeal, old fashioned. None of that packet shit.

For breakfast, that will last +2 weeks and once you get used to it, its great. You can flavor it differently every morning. Add cinnamon, raisins, blueberries, rasberries, kiwi, apples,..etc. Any fruit goes very well for it.

For midmorning snake:

Buy those stalks of broccoli for a couple bucks and a small pint of hummus. You can pick all kinds of flavors. Just cut off large chunks of broccoli and dip it in hummus. This is a very healthy snake that fills you up, adds lots of fiber to your diet, which is good.

Lunch:

Whole wheat pasta + PLAIN tomato sauce. The kind that is just tomates. Instead of gorging yourself with pasta, mix 50/50 lima beans and pasta along with chopped garlic, peppers, or any other vegetable. Sprinkle some romano cheese on top and you are good to go.

Mid-afternoon:

Fruit. All kinds. Fruit is low on the GI scale and is delicious!

Apples, Oranges, pears, kiwi, bananas(high GI, but still good once in a while), all kinds of berries... etc.

Dinner:

This is where you get your meat. Get one of those huge bags of frozen chicken breast and also get canned tuna or the stuff in the pouch. Also get a couple bags of lettuce, spinach, etc. Mix with chicken and tuna and you have a good meal. Throw in some frozen vegetables like lima beans, peas, carrots!

Snack stuff.... Whole wheat bread and natural peanut butter (the kind with oil on the top. No other ingredients in your PB except peanuts and salt. It is the best. If you want to decrease the fat and increase the ratio of protein to fat, pour out the oil on top. Throw this peanut butter on apples and kiwi, or just take a spoon full.

that's some good advice, looner

I'm not that fond of cooked oatmeal. I eat raw oatmeal with nuts, dried fruit, wheat flakes etc. and yoghurt - I like it better than cooked. Quick oats are really gross this way, though.

Tuna fish is healthy in most ways, but it's fairly high in methyl murcury. Mercury can build up in your body over time; eating tuna fish every day might be a health risk.

looner...i'm going on a high protein weight/mass gain diet to cater to my weight lifting efforts. i want to gain about 15 pounds of muscle in the next couple/few months.

right now i'm eating alot of ground beef meatsauce and spaghetti, protein shakes, a little tuna, turkey dogs, steak, chicken(when i go buy it), rice, and beans. along with veggies and fruits and other carbs and dairy of course. i'm going for around 160 grams of protein per day. anything else you could recommend? i guess i could learn how to cook tofu and prepare raw soybeans too(my farts are killer from all this meat).

you seem to know your stuff...i know you posted in another post i had a say in...do you workout as well, trainer, or just nutritionist? is it a career thing? how does it pay?...b/c i am interested in the health field too.

That looks decent, but remember to stay with high GI carbs, rice and enriched pasta will spike your insulin, which isn't good. Try whole wheat pasta or brown rice. Fruit, vegetables and meat are all good. Don't go overboard on dairy, its not as good as once made out to be, also hotdogs are pretty shitty, full of nitrates and sat. fat. Soy/tofu/soybeans... etc... IS BAD. Especially for someone who wants to add mass. Soy contain phytoestrogens which attach to receptor sites and cause a decrease in testosterone. Soy=bad. Stay away.

Also you want to be precise with your calorie amounts, so you are getting a high porportion of lean muscle tissue with a low porportion of fat gain. Here is a good calculator... http://www.johnberardi.com/updates/july262002/na_masscalculator.htm

That is a good starting point, adjust accordingly as you go though.

That website has a lot of good articles you may want to read.

I am none of those things! I am getting my degree in biochemistry though, and always been interested in nutrition. I wrestled in high school, and hence always had to lose weight so I read a lot. I read a lot about nutrition especially geared towards athletes, and frankly, I think my knowledge is probably greater than most of those "certified" nutritionists that think the food pyramid is actually healthy. I am now currently a boxer, and routinely go on bulking phases along with cutting in order to get down to my fight weight. So I have experience doing the shit, which is more than some of those people can say.

Sounds like you're in a skool dorm to me, well take solace and be secure in the knowledge that what you feed your mind is as important as what food you ingest into your body
