Walmart
    #3336097 - 11/09/04 05:59 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I'm sitting here studying for my Marketing test that's in 2 hours and I found this:

Wal-Mart's annual sales now approach $275 billion-more than one and a half times the sales of Target, Sears, Kmart, and JCPenney combined-making it the world's largest company.

Wal-Mart's sales grew last year by the equivalent of the annual sales of one Microsoft, two Coca-Colas, or three Nikes.

Wal-Mart's sales of $1.42 billion on one day last fall were larger than the GDP's of 36 countries.

Each year in the US, Wall-Mart sells 1 of every 4 quarts of motor oil, 1 of every 5 deodorants, and 1 of every 4 replacement toilet seats.

It sells a Timex watch every 7.4 seconds and a Barbie doll every 2 seconds.

One out of every 220 men, women, and children in the US is a Wal-Mart associate.

God Damn. God Damn Wal-Mart.

Yep, that is the reason my dad started the Kicks Coffee company inside Wal-Mart... very good business opportunity.

This company holds the record for the most suits filed against it by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. A lawyer from "Business Week" (not exactly the bastion for supporting Labor) said, "I have never seen this kind of blatant disregard for the law." They had to pay $750,000.00 in Arizona for blatant discrimination against the disabled! The judge was so incensed that he also order them to run commercials admitting their guilt.

It costs me more money to shop at other stores but I refuse to give Walmart my business. To bad most of the mindless drones in this world don't care to look at Walmart's history in order to make an informed decision.

also is this not just the way an economy progresses? manufacturing jobs were lost as machines progressed. lots of jobs were lost due to computerization. small retail stores are overall simply innefficient just like old technology.

Wal-Mart also gets large government subsidys(spelling), and tax breaks, under the pretenses that it is creating jobs, and job training. In reality wal-mart comes into communitys and puts small business's out of business destroying better paying jobs, and hiring retired people and working them part time so as not to have to give them benefits. Sure sounds like progression to me. Also, job training?? It doesn't take much to tell someone to stock a shelf or say hello. Yes, they are an evil company. True they employ a large number of people. But the ratios of people suing them to how many they employ are greater than the other companys. There was an anti-trust suit against them a few years back for forcing people to work overtime off the clock. Yes they are an evil company.

what needs to happen is walmart needs to unionize.

they definately should not be getting any subsidies either, i don't support that for any private company except under extreme circumstances.

Walmart doesn't even have that low of prices! The thing they have lowest prices on is junk food. If I want to get some mustard pretzels or tv dinners then walmart is the place to go. Other than that, many things are still more expensive. They have some of the shittiest produce I've seen as well.

I feel so goddamn sleezy when I walk into a Walmart. Bunch of freaks walking around. Store's a fucking mess. Every employee looks like they're about ready to shoot themselves. Kids all happy because they're dad's buying them a goldfish that's just gonna die a day later.
I'm not usually one for government restrictions of this sort, but I think we're eventually going to need Walmart-Free zones in this country.
