Tank temps and incubation times: OI and Mexicana
    #3269197 -

So 11 jars were inoculated with OI 28 days ago. 2 were just birthed, the rest have some time to go. The tank the birthed cakes are in maintains 63-64F @AM and 70F @PM. 6 new jars of mexicana were inoculated today.

1. Is 30+ days a really long time for myc. to take over cakes or am i just new at this?

2. Is this too cold? I already bought a heater to incubate and I'm really sketchy about buying a heater for every rubbermaid I have or will have.

3. How long does mexicana take to colonize PF jars, and can I apply the answers from question 1 and 2 to this strain. It just seems like an indian and a mexican strain might really need those higher temps...

1) A real long time

2) 80-85 degrees F is good

3) This strain takes 4 months or so ot finish (or so I read). Other strains take a month to finish. Keep them at 75-80 degrees F.

PF Tek is not reccomended for Mexicana. Mexicana needs Lawn seed and a pressure cooker. But, it is worth it.

Are you sure the fruiting tank should be 80-85, I thought that was the incubation temp?

Also, these are the first two strains i'm growing, they were the only ones available to me. What teks would you guys recommend for each strain? I've started PF jars for both of em but the OI hasn't done that well and now i'm apprehensive about the mexicana.

Case the OI in coir/verm. Poo case the mexicana if you want shroomies. If you just want the nuggets of fun, use the just jar tek. 80-85 for incu... 75 or so for fruit. Good luck trying to get mexicana to fruit   Later man

Fruiting should be at 75, it will take much longer at lower temps, though it should work.

Cubensis is the most popluar strain of mushroom..its the kind most people ahve and most likly the only kind you've had. Mexicana form stones within the substrate, basically hardened mycelia and don't produce actual mushrooms very easily or abundantly when it does produce. The stones are peanut like and eating 15 wet grams would be equal to eating 30 wet grams (3 dry) of regular cubies like those orisa's you got. Those by the way are the biggest cubies there are. Its a good strain. Mexicana is too, but its a different beast. You need to read up alot more.

That helps a lot. I was confused because the prints i have that i am guessing are psilocybe mexicana simply say 'mexi-cube' on the print, and being that i'm still a noob what i had read up to that point mostly said the different strains of cubes are more or less the same, so i though innoculating PF BRF jars with it would be the same as any other cube. I have six PF jars of it going, are these going to produce any fruit that i can print from? If not, which tek would be recommended to do so? I only have enough to make one, maybe two more syringes and i'd like to at least keep this strain as an option. I was thinking of using rice per the 9er tek:

is this what is meant by stones?

Ahhh! See your perfect then. Notice up there I said the most popluar species and the one thats easy to grow (like your OI strain) is cubensis. Mexi-cube. Cubensis. Get it? You don't have Mexicana's You have the Mexican (no a) Cubensis (Psilocybe Cubensis Mexican as opposed to Psilocybe Mexicana Strain A, Strain B, Or Jalisco (the three strains of Psilocybe Mexicana.

Everything that was said for the OI's now applys to your other jars again  Fruit them the same. They will be different for sure..but only slightly, they are of the same species though.

Those are not stones by the way. Those are normal mushrooms colonizing on a rice substrate and fruited. I didn't read only scanned pics but they look like cubes..

That thread explains it all, it is a long read... like the pf tek... but it explains everything you need to know... the growlog is also helpful, but the links provided elsewhere in the thread are very helpful.

Enjoy.
