Hey, I think you really don't have to really wait very much longer at all, cause even with a casing on it the mycelium will still try to fill in those empty spots. If anything, assuming it's growing at a good clip, just a couple of days. Peat/verm will work, although with straw people like to go the poop route, as the flushes are better in size and number. I understand that without the dung you get like 1 flush and that's it, but with the manure your chances for multiple good flushes are a lot better. Good luck,

that's growing just fine, but don't case it until it's completely grown.
IMO, if you're making casings with peat, you need a pH meter to properly adjust for the acidity.
i use a mix of coir and verm with a touch of oystershell, or even just straight coir with oystershell.

go to a petstore... it is sold under the name Bed-A-Beast where I live. It is used as reptile bedding. Comes in a dense brick for about $5-10

Just to keep you from going through what I went through,(went looking for bed a beast everywhere and no one had it then I found that every place I went to had "eco-earth") there is also eco earth.
Haha I'm really stoned...

yes it would work, but you would need a ridiculous amount of coconuts.

If you keep taking pictures of the straw and exposing it to more air, it won't matter if you case the straw or not because it will pin set. Once the pins set in, it's pointless to case. You'll just get green mold. I've been there and done that.
