fruit leather bars are pretty high energy.
whos says guys can't know about food? that's a pretty bold statement.
trail mix is always good.
army rations i suppose.

the fact is, you go to most any restaurant and 80% of the cooks and chefs there will be male.

your best bet would be trail mix like funky said. tons of nutrients in grains like granola, granola bars, nuts...things like that are PACKED with energy. basically, you want low sugar, high complex carbs and a little fat. sugar is good, you just don't want something loaded with it. sugar is more a quick boost instead of sustained energy.

rice would be good, but since you say you don't know much about food, i wouldn't suggest you trying to cook rice over a campfire. lol

meat would be really good too. you don't need a dehydrator to cure meat. you can cut some real thin and lay them on a rack in the oven on a low temp for a couple hours. it would be the best, but easiest would just be some store bought.

pasta, lots and lots of pasta. Pretty light, full of carbs for energy, only needs water to cook. But I don't know what you could sauce it with.

just cook your pasta at home, sauce it up, then package it.
warm it up abit with a solar warmer, or whatever and your good to go.

yeah..thats a good idea. can't you boil those ziploc bags? maybe you could put some in a ziploc bag, freeze it and take it with you. then throw it in the boiling water to thaw and take it out before you put the pasta in..

you can get dried bean-based soups like lentil and split pea that are really good. I get them for backpacking in bulk at wild oats. If you have a decent health food store near by, I'm sure you could get those.

Veggie hot dogs are easy and even good cold.

Seaweed like nori, the stuff you wrap sushi in is easy to eat, really good for you and good to snack on, just plain or torn up into soup.

baby carrots, yogurt, cut up tofu in canned or instant soup, frozen defrosted berries with a bit of maple syrup, oatmeal with nuts, seeds, fruit and raisins, baked potatoes, steamed veggies, bagged salads- those are all easy and pretty healthy.

fruit leather is clutch...
peanut butter
jerky is always a nice hiking snack

and trail mix is good because you can make your own, out of things you like to eat.

damn my post went by by.

anyway i cant have anything wet.  im going on extended periods of time so it cant spoil and it needs to be REALLY light.  im already up to 53 pounds without food...i gotta start saving weight badly.

so unfortunatly meats, pastas and such are out :frown:  well i buy those just add water sidekicks/uncle bens type things....but they taste like ass, and dont give me much for energy.

i got a dehydrator if anyone has any goodies with using them

thanks for all teh sugestions!

ohhhh, funny thing is i sometimes do bring those things. they make a good way to pile in a whole bunch of nasty local foods and help choke em down nice and easy.

teh mexican restaurant makes some sorta killer roll thing with them. mexicans rock.

the hikes range.  1 day to several weeks.  so far i usually just bring uncle bens, lentels, nuts, dry soups and along those lines.  also powdered gatorade!  i often eat fish, crayfish, berries, and now mushrooms when im out.  so that takes some of the weight off, but i cant really count on finding food, no matter how easy it has been so far.

anyway i have been finding after about a week of walking i start to crash.  im now looking into health food store type crap :frown:  need something that actually gives me real energy pretty fast and can last, not caffiene sugar type stuff that really doesnt do much and kills me after a few hours.

also bring oatmeal/grains that can be done up with water nicely.

wonder fi the natives ever did a 3 week peyote unting binge :nut:

things liek those wraps and such i only bring on short hikes or i eat them on the first day type of thing, i never carry that sorta thing for extended periods.
