Most common reason for colonization failure?

I made 8 jars using the PF technique. The jars were placed under my bed where there was some but very little light. After about 6 days I started to see white spots growing, they got a little bigger but then they just suddenly stopped growing. I tried placing them in a cooler location but they just stayed the same, no sign of contamination.. this is very dissapointing because I have no idea whats wrong , any ideas? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unless under your bed is over 90 degrees, I would not lower the temp. You want mid 80s for initial growth.

What is the temp where you are keeping the jars? Are the lids a little bit loose to allow for air exchange?

the temp under the bed was 80-85, the lids are on pretty tight, can too tight be bad?

Easiest way to stall a jar: too much moisture.

If you have the little holes used for innoculation, the air exchange should be fine. They only need a little bit for the co2 to escape.

The temp is good. You can try loosening the jars 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

Hold on..unless I'm really fitshaced (I am), you don't want CO2 to escape, that would symbolize air exchange which leads to fruiting. My guess is you're over moisturized, but it's just a guess. We need more details, your temp is fine though.

In fruitbodies, but from basic common sense if your allowing CO2 to escape during incubation it's place will be taken by oxygen. When this happens during incubation it leads to premature pinning.

Light + air exchange = fruiting conditions EDIT : like pshawnv said you need a temp drop too.

I remember seeing Hypae's pinning stragedy. I think if you expose jars to elements during colonization, it makes pinning harder or at least smaller flush.
I'm guessing the jars are pretty hard packed. Just a guess. I packed few jars a little too tight and they are colonizing very slowly compared to the others. I can't understand how you can use the heating pad. The lowest setting on my pad still gets hot where things have been touching for awhile. Try taking the temperature between the towel and the container, if you aren't doing that already. My GTs are 4 days old and more than 50% done. They spread so fast at start to point of getting me worried.
Just throwing stuff out there from what I learned from these friendly brown thumbed growers.
Good luck.

Heating pads work great with a buffer layer of magazines and/or paper towels to promote even heating as well as lower temperatures.

85-87*F is the perfect colonization temperature. Lower that by about 10 degrees when it's time to fruit if you want, but if you can only go down to 80 it'll still be okay.

I have had temp fluctuations stall creeper on poo and creeper in karo water...the karo recovered tho while the poo dosen't move..I have a stalled creeper right now I've been meaning to throw out...and I even tried my best using a heater too keep my room right around the 86 mark...burma has no problems with the exact same method on the exact same poo...and creeper does start to colonize and I"ve had a creeper on poo make it the distance(well almost)...so really I don't see any other likely reason other than MAYBE water content(but I highly doubt it)...I use the same method for burma like I said with no probs...obviously its never gonna be identical in water content but I've had this happen now on 3 creeper poo casings with 1 making it to about 90% before stallin and fruiting
no stalls on millet tho creeper included..I plan to try straight straw in a clear container soon...that way I can see it and try out the double tub method started by eatyualive if it colonizes it that is(I have 4qts of creeper and some cut straw ready to go just gotta get a couple clear bins)
