P.subbs: "Found from spring to autumn grouped or clustered often in rings up to two feet in diameter on open ground, freshly manured lawns, straw piles, all types of compost, dung piles, and roadsides in Ontario and throughout the USA (especially in Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Washington, and Oregon). Optimum growth on MEA is at 86 degrees F. It occasionally occurs as a weed mushroom in commercial mushroom houses"

from the FAQ.

its cool... from the FAQ it seems your best bet is to look for Panaeolus Subbalteatus... which do grow on cow dung.

browse through the FAQ on the site and find some pics and more info, maybe that will increase you're likelihood of finding them

It's because you did it WRONG...you have to research your area and find out what mushrooms grove there and then do searches on those paticular shrooms. In Michigan I'd look for pan subbs and those aren't gonna be found on cow dung...try horse dung. Like the huge shit piles they dump at from the stables, you're bound to find something

I think half your problem is that you may have started too early in the season. but like Psilygirl said, research the mushrooms that grow in your area, so you can determine the right conditions to find what you're looking for.

well maybe you should look up some pictures so you have an idea of what they look like, they are very unassuming and boring looking mushrooms. you'll prolly be surprised by this once you find them.

Sinisteruproar,
You should excercise patience..in this hobby.

Ive been at this hunting forum for maybe 6+ years
and ive never seen or heard of a single person
finding Panaeolus subbalteatus, in Michigan.

I bet subbs do grow there, but it could take many
hours and many days and seasons even to find them.

Michigan is however great for finding Morel mushrooms.
Morels are known as one of the greatest edible mushrooms.

Let me spoon feed you a little bit
and show you a list of Psychoactive mushrooms
that have been found in Michigan;
start here and then research (on the web)
what each shroom prefers to grow from and when;

Amanita muscaria
A. pantherina
Gymnopilus aeruginosus
G. liquiritae
G. luteofolius
G. luteus
G. sapineus
G. spectabilis
G. validipes
Panaeolus subbalteatus
Pluteus salicinus
Psilocybe caerulipes
P. liniformans var. americana
P. silvatica

And also research Morel mushrooms.
