Hunting faq isnt very helpful
    #2872656 -

in each state it gives a list of types of mushrooms which can be found, no sepcific area ie:

Michigan
Psilocybe caerulipes
Psilocybe liniformans var. americana
Psilocybe silvatica .
Panaeolus subbalteatus
Conocybe smithii Watling.
Gymnopilus aeruginosus
Gymnopilus luteofolius
Gymnopilus luteus
Gymnopilus validipes

then i go to which species can be found where and when..
out of those two are there..
Psilocybe caerulipes and Panaeolus subbalteatus of which description to find them seems vauge to me

why not just make a post asking people to post some " Park names, highways names (long stretches of highways), town names." for each state , i mean they would know being from that state. seems ineficent (sp?). sticky it or something and let it grow

because no one wants to give their known spots to a bunch of desperate fools on an internet mushroom board that can't find their own places to pick , can't say I blame them...

if you do a google search for each of those species you'll find a full description of characteristics and habitat.  if you go to likely habitats and search enough you will find the mushrooms, it's a pretty simple concept...

DH's point, tha part about knowing the general area to find a target species and studying it untill you can go locate the habitat and find your target species is what mushroom hunting is all about. if you don't like it, you have no bussiness hunting mushrooms.

as for the specific locations, people here aren't allowed to disclose things like that for leagal reasons. if we had 2000 people descending on a puclic park looking for mushrooms in the fall there would be a lot of arrests, a lot of cops watching the area the next year. if a location on private property where to be disclosed, the shroomery could be liable.

no need to flame, buddy :sun:

he actually quoted the FAQ when it stated what IS allowed (" Park names, highways names (long stretches of highways), town names.")

but as others just pointed out, i certainly wouldnt want to give up one of my patches   i work hard to find patches, and there were more days coming home empty handed then there were actually getting good finds (when hunting, not picking a patch i know produces)

just get out there with your knowledge!

edit: you deleted your flame post, so disregard the first sentence

Psilygirl---

what are those mushrooms in your avatar? We found some that looked exactly like that and which I described in detail in my thread "ID help needed... Caerulipes?"

her avatar depicts Psilocybe canescens. they do not grow in your area. if indeed your mushrooms where P. caerulipse they would have looked similar.

In response to Down South's Psilly Girl's avatar, thse are Psilocybe cyanescens. I know where they are.

Have a shroomy day. Read the Shroomery's Ultimate Shroom Guide (55 of the 190 known psilocybian species with 1500 phtographs of thoe 55 species.

and then the reason for listing of P. caerulipes and Pn. subbalteatu is that they are more common in Michigan and easier to find. The other species are psychaoctive but also resemble several deadly toxic species y so it is wise to avoid thoe other listed species.

mj

Join a local mycological society club. There are dozens of them in Michigan. sooner or later someone might tell you how to find the particular ones you are interested in.
