Magic Drink

Has anyone tried this tek?
http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_cultivation16.shtml
Basically it involves fully colonizing rye grain in Quart size jars. Adding cranberry juice and straining out the grain. The resulting drink is a mycelium rich cranberry juice. Since mycelium contains the "magic" I can see how this would work. So I'm just seeing if anyone else has tried this. It sure would be nice to completely eliminate the fruiting process! Thanks

Well never mind, I did some searching and there have been previous threads regarding this issue. I didn't gather much information one way or the other, so I'm going to try it and I'll post my results.

I did it once with five PF cakes that I couldnt get to fruit.
Man, all five of those mycelium cakes made me trip harder than I ever had before.
I went a little further and boiled them also, making kind of a tea. I called it mycelium punch. I was left with quite a large amount of liquid and it was hard to get it all down, but it was worth it.
I bet if I had a some kind of press I could extract the same amount of mycelium using a lot less liquid, and therefor making it alot easier to drink.

Glad to hear it worked! I can't figure out if the guy who wrote this tek is talking about using rye berries or rye grain because he says this,"At this point, you simply place the jars in a clean, dark place and wait for permeation. You get the most rapid growth if you shake up the grains every 3 or 4 days. This is part of the reason for using rye berries." Any clarification here would be appreciated 8)
Anyway I think if you are going to use this method you should avoid the PF method altogether and just colonize the berries/grain or whatever so you don't have to deal with the mess of cakes...
The tek recommends using 500g of cranberry juice, not sure who much that is but it doesn't sound like too much...

I just tried this for the first time last week and it worked very well!!!!
A friend wanted to trip and asked if I had any mushrooms left from my last batch, I told him no but that I did have something for him. I explained that mycelium contains the same goodies as the mushrooms etc...and finally he agreed to be my guniea pig :)
I use one pint of fully colonized birseed. This paticular cake has been sitting fully colonized invitro for about 3 months, which is one reason I think it worked so well. I made a tea with boiling water as I always do(boiling will not decrease potency like everyone thinks) and added some sugar and tea flavor.
Needless to say he tripped very hard of my concoction :) Said it was the most intense trip of his life. I think the reason people get mixed results with the cake eating thing is because of the age of the cake. Some people try to eat a freshly colonized cake, which has yet to produce a little if any psilocybin. The longer the cake sits colonized in the jar, the more it turns into an indole factory and increasing in potency. The cake I used was actually staining blue as I broke it apart to make tea.
The key to tripping on cakes is to use older cakes. Let your jars sit fully colonized for atleast 4 weeks after colonization and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks LK. I am having a hard time finding organic rye grain around here. What kind of bird seed did you use? Also what ratio of seed to water do you recommend. I am going to try quart size jars for this.....

For the best success with using any whole grain, you should check out the 9er Tek in the Grow/Find section.

This seems fasinating to me. Why doesn't everyone do this? Once you can't produce anymore from your cakes, you can just make a drink with the remaining mycelium?
That's great! Can't wait to get the chance to try it.

Oh and dont worry about the getting the right water ratio. Just boil the grain untill it puffs up and becomes soft, and then strain off the water. You should be left with fluffy moist soft grain. Then all you do is spoon it loosely into your jars and pressure cook to sterilize it. The 9er tek goes over it pretty well.
If you dont boil it before you pressure cook it then it gets real clumpy and doesnt work very well.

I think it's unpopular because it's rather unorthodox. But to me, it seems perfect. No expensive space hoging setups, no humidity/temp levels to check, no casing, no lights, I could go on and on.
Anyway since my cat is going to try this I have one more question. This probably belongs in the cultivation forum but this thread is going well enough. My cat currently has three quart jars of liquid innoculation growing some of Ryches Koh Samui. The spores started growing in about 24 hours but they haven't really gotten any bigger since then, it's been three days. How big are the mycelium supposed to get before toonces transfers them to grain? Right now they are about 1/8 inch in diameter. Toonces is a complete newbie if you couldn't tell...
Thanks for the info on the 9r teck. My cat will check that out....
