legal help? anyone

so get this, my grandma had a stroke the other week, my brother went down to cali to visit, i had to start a new job that week, and coulnt make it, so she was alive for awhile, and my brother heard my grandma tell her long term boyfriend "is my will still around" and he said "yea, ti's locked in the safe, i found it 2 days ago" (at this my brother says that my grandma sounded shocked that he was looking into it already)...

so anyway, my grandma tells my brother about the will, and a few days later she died.

so a few days later my brother is going to leave, and he asked her boyfriend about the will, to which he replies "oh, we got rid of that years ago"... So that's like a big "huh?" he was shocked, and didnt really know how to respond to that, ya know?

so basicaly, i know that my grandma has bank, and i just dont want to see him jack the rest of the family somehow... anyone know anything about situations like so? what typicaly happens when someone dies without a will?

I could be wrong, and it could vary from state to state.. but it is my impression that if you do not have a will, most if not all of your assets will go to the government. Of course, this wouldn't include joint ownerships, in which case the jointly owned property would likely become the property of the living successor.

Call a lawyer.

yea, my brother wanted to hire a PI, but he wants like, 85$ for every bank account he finds, which may or may not be the right solution

If you know she had a will then call a lawyer. It would be worth not getting screwed.
