Few ?'s about Lava Rocks
    #3147259 - 09/17/04 08:45 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

A friend is going to use Lava Rocks for her PMP and wanted to know why not use the BBQ kind?  Is it just because of the size of them compared to the landscape kind or is it because its a different type of lava rock?  Assuming its just the size difference couldn't one just bust it up into smaller pieces?  And lava rocks are being used because the real "grow rocks" are being used elsewhere .  Another question was is it better to boil them and for how long, or is a bleach bath better?  Or could you heat it in the oven(this way it can be done all at once) to sterilize, and what temp. length of time to bake?  Just wanted to clarify some things for my friend.  I searched through posts but didn't see any definitive answers to these questions.  I got to thinking and wondered if anyone had tried using these with perilite on top of the lava rocks to give a more level surface and maybe more RH.  This I am assuming wuld be a great mess though. Thanks for all the help you can give!

Right on I knew Kramer would be helpful!  Sounds good, I think my friend took the hammer to em already anyway.....beating the rocks!!! .  I'll let ya know how well the lava rocks work, I told my friend they should do just as well as hydro rocks.  Thanks George and Kramer.
