WBS won't colonize: are my lids to blame? pic

I have 5 WBS jars that have been incubating for 10 days now, and there is little to no signs of colonization at this point. I PC'd them correctly, I let them cool sufficiently, and innoculated with old but good spore syringes, 5 dif. strains. Anyhow, I was wondering if my lid setup was not letting enough airflow into the jars. As you can see I am using the filter patch and polyfill on the lids. I thought I had read somewhere on the FAQ that this was the way to go, am I wrong?

Good photography trick to get both sides.

You should pick one or the other really, so pull the polyfil and you should be good to go.

How did you prepair the WBS? Did you soak for 24 - 48 hours, simmer for 45 minutes, fill jars, PC, let sit over night and then enoculate with spores?

If you did not simmer the WBS may be to dry.

If you did not let sit overnight before you inoculated you may have killed the spores.

I have found WBS to be very forgiving... As long as to follow the guidelines it almost never fails.

You may want to look into using tyvek. I swear by it... Its all I use.

give em a shake and see what happens, if they dont recolonize and you can see unhealt myc then its a invisible yeast contam. also you can notice because teh grain may turn slimey. Youll know for sure if you open one up and give it a wiff after you gave em a shake and waited about 4-5 days.

Soaked for 24 and drained really well, no simmering, waiting about 14 hours before innoculating. Grower: the WBS does appear to be a bit "slimy", maybe the yeast is my problem. The synthetic filter discs are from fungi perfecti, aren't these more or less the same as tyvek? And one last question, is using both of these a no no? Should it really just be one or the other as spudz said? Peace.

One hour at 15psi. Maybe it was the spores, 4 of the syringes I had recieved from shroomery members, all of them had to be over a year old. Maybe I should just hit up TLG and start over.

I've got a SHIT load of prints, I just think I'll start from scratch with quality syringes though. What is the shelf life of prints? 4-5 years?

same thing happened to me. i didn't simmer them either and just PCed after soaking/rinsing/draining. after 2 weeks most of them just looked slimy and nothing was growing. I threw those jars out and got some rye. Soaked/rinsed/simmered/ drained then PCed them and they colonized completely in about 10 days. maybe it was the brand of birdseed?... it didnt say anything about fungicides or anything. I got it from walmart at ~2$ for 5 pounds penningtons with bird kote

Prints last as long as 20 years.

Failure to simmer the seed was not your problem. I have never simmered WBS (or any other grain). A long soak (24-48 hours) works fine for me. Using both methods of filtration is overkill. All that will accomplish is unneccesarily restrict the air flow.
