Flowhood experimental setup
    #3132701 - 09/14/04 01:56 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

material :

- a 24"x24"x12" Micretain filter with a 0.5" W.G resistance
http://www.camfil.com/script/productview.asp?prodid=137&catid=3&toppic=top18.jpg

- a 980 CFM squirrel cage blower with a 1/6 HP motor

- a bionaire UA0860 ULPA air purifier
http://www.bionaire.ca/bionaireua0860.html

- vent tubing and fitting

Any suggestion ?

Thanks

Michael Ogic

The a Bionaire UA0860 ULPA air purifier only outputs 80 CFM, and you are aiming at 400 cfm. Not sure how this will work together with the blower, I don't think you will get the output together.

It would be better to go with the bionaire purifier alone and an enclosed space, sometning like this:

yes, that's what i thought

but I already have the micretain filter and the blower but not the ULPA ...

so maybe i'll put a box over the blower and the ULPA and put a pre-filter over the box.

The 980 CFM easily output 400 + CFM with a 0.5" W.G resistance

but because the filter is only 95% effective at 0.3 micron, i thought about using a ULPA ( 99,999% eff at 0.1 micron ) as a pre-filtration .

any suggestion ?

thanks

I know ya don't want to hear this but that ULPA by itself could be used to make an awesome positive glove box or hooked up to a large plastic garbage bag with the side cut open makes for real simple cheap getto flowhood. Just some thoughts. Your ULPA would not be able to keep up with the flow rate if placed in between either. GL

Would it be possible to use a wal-mart 99,97 % eff at 0,3 hepa filter as a pre-filter for the flowhood ?

Does pulling air through a HEPA or ULPA filter reduce is efficiency ?

Should put it between the blower and the filter or between the pre-filter and the blower ?

thank you

a inline duct blower will push air through a cheap small 12"x12"x3" or 6"(99,97%) as a pre-filtration before the air reach the squirrel cage that blow through the 24"x24"x12" H10 filter (95%)

btw, the inline duct fan will not blow directly on the hepa filter

the squirrel cage have a flow rate of about 450 cfm at 0.5" W.G ..

how many CFM the inline duct blower would have to push trough the 12x12x6 1"W.G hepa to keep up with the flow rate of the blower ?

peace

Can you make it any more complicated?!
1 prefilter
2 blowers
2 filters

you need
1 prefilter
1 blower
1 filter

But make that filter a proper one, 99,97 efficiency at least, better yet 99,995.

i know its getting a little bit complicated .. the problem is that i don't want to waste the h10 filter and i need a 24"x24" laminar flow and don't have the $ for a 24"x24" hepa and my squirrel cage is not potent enough for a 24x24 with 1.0" WG

so i try to figure the cheapest way to use my H10 filter for a laminar flow hood.

i'm really minded on this

I'm sorry if i'm annoying with all my questions

i'm only seeking for a little help or knowledge

peace

I hate to be a stick in the mud but you already wasted your money and you should have read more or at the very least asked us here. I mean I thought you did but then the next thing I hear you bought this one so I really don't know what to tell ya? GL in the future bro

this one is the same
Micretain = H10

I've read a lot ! but i'm trying to figure a way to use this h10 filter ( not in the archive or previous post ) and now, at the very least i'm asking questions to more experienced people, an i feel like i'm disturbing these people ..

i only though that someone at the shroomery could help me ..

peace

If you want an experimental setup try an idea hyphes idea from another thread, have a pre particle filter, then a cheap 90-97% hepa then the 99.997 filter. This should last a long time and you'll almost never need a replacement good hepa filter. You'll still need to change the pre filter and cheap hepa occasionally but the upkeep is greatly reduced.

You will never disturb us thats why we're here bro! That 95% hepa will last years as long as you change the cheap prefilter regularly (many hours or use). This system will last you the rest of your life no prob.

What the difference between a hepa filter and a hepa panel ?

I'm probably gona buy a hepa, which on would best fit my needs :

http://www.camfil.com/script/productlist.asp?catid=3

-Absolute LS
-Ultra-pac
-Absolute XS

-Megalam (Laminator) MDL

-Megalam U
http://www.camfil.com/script/productdetail.asp?prodid=30&catid=15&toppic=top_tree.gif

or maybe

Panels are perfect for your prefilter. As far as the main HEPA I'd go with the Megalam (Laminator) MDL. Starting to look pretty damn good! I sure hope you take lots of pics assembling this baby!

- pre-filter 0.10" W.G
-H10 filter 0.48" W.G
-Hepa Panel 0.32" W.G

total : 0.90 " W.G

they also have ULPA with 0.36" W.G

I don't see any added benefit for the added cost MO. You'll be shining with zero cotams  All for under 1.0" W.G

what do you mean exactly ?

i already have the pre-filter and the H10 filter ( 95%)

the cheapest hepa i can buy is a  100mm thick 24x24 hepa panel (99,97%)

thank you hyphae for your precious help

Chances are good you'll have no problem with a 99.97% HEPA but given a choice I'll always take a 99.99% HEPA just for the piece of mind. Go for the ULPA if you want but all you need is a 99.99% HEPA and you'll be golden! GL MO
