those certainly look like oyster shells, i dont see why you could'nt crush them up your sel and use that. I thinkit would work, just make sure you sterilize em.

Aren't those razor clam shells?
They might work, but I wouldn't do it.

Oyster shells look like this . Look harder for the real thing...at feed stores, pet stores and especially bird oriented pet stores.

from my understanding the nutritional value from the oyster shells is minimal, although they do get some calcium, however they are there more for texture. Hey i could be wrong but i think those shells would work if he sterilizes them.

I have no idea.  I just happen to collect oyster shells and those aren't them (unless it's a species I am unfamiliar with).

I think that if you want to give it a try, it would be a cool experiment.  That's what this is about, anyways - experimenting.  Have fun(gi)

couldn't view the picture, but regardless, if you can't find oyster shells, don't worry too much--they mostly provide texture--as stamets says, they shouldn't be used as the sole buffering agent anyway, as they are not very water soluble. find some limestone flour or chalk and use that. balance to a ph of around 7...

best...

From what I understand oyster shell is used for a nice firm base for your shrooms to grab onto and grow larger than normal and lime is used to adjust to ph of casing material. Bilcapo if the only reason you are adding shell is to increase ph hydrated lime with accomplish this for you. The shell is added for texture and a base for your shrooms. Grind the shells you have up and sterilize them and add lime and you should be fine. Look at the 50/50+ tek

Peace and good luck to you......
