Insaine contamination....

I lost 15 1/2pints all at once to that Damn green mold. I have had quite a problem with it lately. Any advice other that wash hands and sterilyze utinsils? (i put the jars upside down, so i think when the cake slipped down and made a vacume it sucked up spores galore.)

i don't have much advice to give other than keeping jars more than a foot off of the floor, and away from pets. Mostly i just wanted to tell ya i feel your pain. better luck in the future.

Well for one, where was your contamination? If it was around the top edges than the mold got through the verm barrier.... if this is the case then you need to use a thicker verm layer... a 1 inch verm layer is foolproof, assuming you dont shake it and mess with it. If it was around the innoculation points then the contam came from the syringe... either the liquid or the needle.... considering you lost all 15 I would almost gaurantee it was the liquid. Don't flip your jars, and be more specific than "I lost 15 jars to mold, any advice on what happened?!!"... So where did the mold show up? Do you make your own syringe, or order from cap'n max ? Tell us more so that we can help you!
