is there an average size for aborts...like an inch or so?

You'll know them when you see them. Mainly because the aborts wont change over a period of 24 hours and dependant upon the strain, your mushrooms will have grown an inch in this time frame. Dont pluck anything until it's time to harvest. The aborts don't harm anything during the flush, but you do want to remove them for successive flushes. And when it's time to harvest you will know which ones are aborts because they will be undersized, unhealthy looking, and turning blue.

Thanks for the good Info...much appreciated. Update on the shrooms - the caps are pulling away from stipe, but these babies are only about an inch long and have been growing for a week. I've read that they should be picked when the cap tears away from the stipe...are these just some miniture shrooms? Should he give them more time? Thanx again all

some just stay small.
if the cap opens and the veil tears, you might as well pick, it won't get much bigger, but it will get bitter if allowed to sporulate.

do aborts rot if left unpicked and damage/ spread rot to the cake/ nearby shrooms?
