acitone to extract harmala?

I ordered 4 oz of syrian rue from iamshaman and they sent me 8 oz, so i have some to play with. I have a big 3 gal container of shirwin williams actione and i started a small test batch using 60g of powdered seeds and 500ml of acitone because i wanted to test it first.

Do you guys think acitone will work well to extract the harmala? The water looks slightly green after 30 min, like a weak tea.

Also i already tested the actone evaping a bowl full and there was no oil or residue left over after full evap.

Acetone would probably rip a bunch of unwanted stuff out of the syrian rue. There is an extraction using acetic acid and salt I believe which is supposed to yield crystals. That would be your best route.

I use lemon juice or acid acetic (=vinegar) to make extractions. With lemon I repeat the process 3 times.

whats the purpose of the salt?

He only got 3g out of 50g and dosed 1g and didnt have a full trip? I had the strangest visuals and audio with only 10g worth of tea and he just felt stoned? I'll see how well this turns out, so far it turned red, which i like :wink:

The addition of salt forces the harmala alkaloids to precipitate at low temperatures. Otherwise, the alkaloids would remain soluble in the acidic solution.

with extraction from coca leaves the salt helps draw the actives from them. as for syrian rue, I dont know, never had any to play with

The NaCl converts the harmala alkaloids from an acetate to a hcl which is insoluble in the solution at low temperatures.

Everyone here has sorta said the right answer.

The addition of Chloride ions from NaCl is two fold. One, the Chloride ion will singly replace the acetate group, and two the solution becomes saturated with excess NaCl causing better crystal formation since the solution is saturated with Na+Cl- ions with respect to the solution and harmaline chloride.
