Any tips from anybody in the PNW with experience/know-how in cultivating p.cyans outdoors?

Autumn is getting closer

Your too late to get fruit this year. Try making a hardwood chip bed in spring.

Really????

Cant cyans fruit into and through november??

I have heard that the mycelium takes awhile to colinize the spawn(grain)longer then cubes at least, and then you have to mix that spawn with wood chips.

And this all takes time.

I thought this year I would have some Cyans, but even after making a liquid culture, I had OTHER problems to deal with and the next thing I know its the end of august and my liquid culture is dead. :frown:

Spring??? that early??, thats when spawn should meet chips???

My syringe is evaporating, so I have to try at least next season, but what about a large PCable bag with a filter, filled with wood chips, liquid culture gets shot in and by november I would hope to have mycelium to create a patch.

I like this idea becuase it skips the mixing of grain spawn with wood chips, not to mention the time it takes the mycelium to colinize the grain spawn. :smirk:

I hear they are partial to cedar chips, and/or coniferous wood mulch.

Cedar has a natural fungicide built in. Cedar is a nono for woodlovers vc77. They do love alder, beech, maple and aspen even to name a few. BTW in the spring I buy large bags of Hardwood chips then fill the bags with water let sit for a few days to soak then I poke two holes at each corner and drain then innoculate. These bags are in the shade all summer and opened during rains and closed immediately afterwards they are also watered periodically during dry spells. These bags colonize nicely, come fall they're dumped early enough in the season to allow them to produce. This is been done in the midwest btw. after they stop producing gal. bags of colonized chips are taken indoors and stored in the fridge until spring. 1gal. spawn per large bag.

I used to pick them next to a wood processing plant in homboldt county. I believe they were coniferous trees being processed. It was one of the craziest habitats imagenable(the type you would expect magic mushies to grow in). The ocean was but 120 yards away, and it was very sandy and they were underneath the shrubs there was some muclh from the branches. That is where I picked them but they grew all overy the area.
