You can cut it off with a sterile instrument but I really don't think it is anything to bad. Prolly just bruising or even a clump of darker verm.

im pretty sure its a contam. it looks way darker then the vermiculite did. it is part of the verm/brf and not the dry verm layer. and its the only part that the cake hasnt colonized, but it is a relatively small section. the contrast between the two colors of the mycelium and the contam<?> is what is making me think this way. but i will just keep an eye on it for now and if it gets any bigger i will just cut it off though. hrmmm anything i have to do if i do cut it though? besides using a sterile instrument... cause i would imagine it will do pretty hefty damage and i dont know if i should keep it in the dark for a couple days or something to let it heal or whatever.... but wooo its got pins!! heh i didnt know if i would be able to recognize them but think i have.

oh shit, i forgot to mention the textures look totaly different as well. you can tell that there is no mycelium there, at least not the good kind heh

sterlize a knife and cut it out then wash the cut with tap water and case the cut with damp verm, this should do the trick..

no just put a little damp verm in the cut after u cut out a little notch on the cake, u don't have to case the whole cake but u do want something in the fresh cut, does this make sense??
