not willing to take time to put the energy or effort to let go of their intelluctual side and to view there is a possiblity in what is being said,

but try to convince me that i am wrong is going to be like hittng your head on a brick wall

I see. Others should be open to new possibilities, but not you.  :stoned:

i am open to all possibilites
i should have rephrased that
i don't see anything as right or wrong
only living and learning will change my beleif system and try and convince me that i am wrong in your views will be like hitting your head against a brick wall
i also see that there is alot to learn from both sides instead of arguing points lets all try and understand why one feels the way they do and what made them to beleive in what they do

Am I? I don't think so. You just said there was no chance of anyone changing your mind about anything - that type of rigid stance is the antithesis to learning.

yes, but everything you do is part of your experience. so being openminded all the time would be the way to go. reading and thinking, and debating, and thinking, and reading somemore is all part of the experience isn't it?

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I think critisizm is a part from skepticism.
Just wondering and rumbling.
How could there be a constructive critisizm, if there, in all, could not be something positive in skepticism ?

Or is skepticism a part from critisizm ? Or are they both part from something bigger ?

Also, I think that you could 'use' skeptisicm on both sides. Spiritualy and scientificaly.

I realised how opposite I am from a traditional negative skeptic

But you ARE a skeptic.

If you go to the bank knowing from your ledger and receipts that you have $1000 in your account, and you're told by the teller that you have only $500, do you not challenge that?

That's the essence of skepticism: when you have evidence (your ledger and receipts) that contradict the statements of another (the bank who's made an error as evidenced by your ledger and receipts).

Why do you distinguish the skepticism you would display against a bank's statement of your balance vs. the skepticism someone here displays against, say, the statements of a telekinetic who has never once provided evidence to support his claim or contradict the skeptic?

The way I see it, if you expand your beleif perameters of what is known (provable or not)you have less to fear.

Why would you not apply this same principal to the bank example and just accept that they may be right about your balance after all... even though they haven't shown you anything to contradict your ledger and receipts?

Wow, lol

You've made a lot of assumptions about me here. Thats okay, it's starting point to deepening understanding.

If that happened to me, I would question myself first. I would redo the math cross referencing the cancelled checks and deposit balances. I would look for any evidense I had that my ledger was correct or not. I would compare mine to the banks ledger to find the descerptancy. Once I found it I would have the information to prove whose balance was correct. I may find I made an error.

Once for real, I didn't record a $600. deposit. When my statement came with $600 bonus bucks in my account, I was like "hell ya!" I certainly didn't go to the bank and say, "um , excuse me, I forgot to record a deposit so can you deduct that amount from my acount so our ledgers will match? "

In answer to your second question, off the bat I would first consider I made the mistake and I would look to rememdy it. I certainly wouldn't think, MY ledger is correct and the bank is wrong. I would take the possibility of my error and the banks claim into account of what can be possible from the get go. I would not be in fear panick therefore because I already accepted the possibility.

Some people would get themselves worked up into a freaking fit and argue with the bank before considering the possibilities or reviewing what the information.

A negative skeptic would be one who takes away possibilities because their is no proof available. A positive skeptic would be one who adds (possibilities even if there is no proof yet available.)

YOUR example anaology doesn't fit the idea of the thread because their is evidense to be found to prove whose ledger is correct. bBking accounts work with tangible monetary funds.

Use an example that works with untangible phenomonon. What if the spirit of your dead grandmother came upon you while awake in a room. She came to smile and say, "I love you" and then dissapeared. You can't prove it. Does that mean it didn't happen to you. Should I call you a liar? Should you think yourself to be delusional and insane? If you told me that happened, I would give credit to the possibility, without proof. I would probably say, "Oh how cool" and leave it at that.

I was looking at your last line again. If their ledger did not contradict mine, the balances would be the same or someones math would be wrong. You can figure that out with a calculator.

If an exact bank ledger of my personal ledger gave two differnt balance amounts and the math was correct in both, then i would say you have just entered the twilight zone or someone was using virtual money that got sucked up into a worm hole. LOL

I would compare mine to the banks ledger to find the descerptancy.

This is the essence of good, healthy skepticism!! It is what I do when I ask for an 'accounting' of the evidence to support the claims of a mystic. It's what I do when I ask the telekinetic to demonstrate his skill. It's one of the pillars of science.

There's hope for you yet, jiggy.

What is it you are hoping for for me?

I'm happy with myself and life, actually, I live with an inner grin I have it so good.

You can put me in for a $50 million dollar lottery win if you want to send hope my way.

You seem to be under some inaccurate impression of me and I can't figure it out.

keep this in mind, who I am and how i do things off the board in the tangible world is more then what you see here in a spirituality forum where I let go off a lot before I come in the door.

There are people fairly close to me who could read most of my stuff and not beleive I wrote it. When I am on a board like this, I let fly and I come here to fly free in thought with others.

Out my front door, people talk about mortgage rates, which perinials fare best in this climate, the new restaurant that openned down the street, yada yada. I also live very much in the world as you know it. Here is where I get to fly loose and fancy free and impart other worlds of my experiences into the mix.

I live in many worlds all at once.

Accepting, understanding and appreciating people as they are is a lot easier then trying to change them to be what you want or wish them to be. Something to think about.

I never said that I wasn't skeptical. You have no idea what I have put to my own tests and challenges.

I will always want to be able to add something to what I take away from though to keep balance. If you keep going through life taking away you will end up with nothing. When I take away what doesn't work I replace it with a better working model. I don't just take away because I like the negatives. I like adding positives and keeping balance.

I save my most of my negatives for private contemplation. Sharing them is the quickest way to clear a room.

What is it you are hoping for for me?

This isn't personal, jiggy, I'm just defending the point of view of the skeptic because that point of view is near and dear to me.  :sun:
