Peak District mission.

It's full on at the moment. The weather however was horrendous, really bad.

I went out in the wind and found one.

I've decided the big weird fellas at the top of my photos above must be protostropharia luteonitens

Was just thinking the same, it's absolutely dead. Used to be like 15-20 pages in by now.

I think people are more aware that online posting is a very public affair.

Maybe it's full of glowies too.

This is true. I can remember the thread being more popular in the past - even just last year (which I also started lol). Although it was still a significant decline in popularity compared to previous years.

Personally I quit psychs recently and plan to stay away from them for a few years, hence why I am not going picking. As for the rest, maybe some of the more long-time posters are getting sick of posting now ahah.

The season has also been relatively poor at least in my area. It started very early, but throughout most of the season the libs were sparse imo. It's coming very close to an end up here now anyways though. It's probably the worst season I've seen in my short time (last 4 seasons). This might be due to the brutally hot & dry weather in the UK over summer.

Hey, first time posting, thanks for having me... I live in East Sussex and have for years gone to the same spot between September and now with abundant harvests. However, this year there is literally not ONE lib to be found, and I am wondering if this is something others are experiencing or if anyone knows if a field/area with a known mycelium network for libs, can have a season where none appear? Going to look in other fields etc nearby (downloaded spore cast) but yea just wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom on this...

Dont worry mate, im in the exact same boat, all my usual spots are bare. Your best bet is just to branch out, I have yet to find a single one anywhere this year and with it now going into November im getting a bit worried. Its a real shame but they come and go unfortunately.

Upland habitats like moorland and high-altitude grassland have managed to retain topsoil moisture despite the summer heatwave. Sedges and mosses have been real lifesavers here, keeping mycelial networks well-protected. Now, heading into the tail end of the season, these sheltered, damp microclimates have created optimal fruiting conditions for a wide range of fungi.

Lowland habitats, however, haven't been as lucky. It takes time for mycelium to colonize and establish in the topsoil, and after the summer ground was baked dry, water tables across the lowlands are sitting exceptionally low. All the prime growing time that mycelium needed over the summer was lost. Given that the intense heat lasted through to mid-August, the fungi have had only a narrow window to recover, re-establish, and attempt a flush.

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother checking open lowland areas right now. To stand any real chance, your best bet is driving out to Wales, the Lake District, or any national park with decent elevation.

it hasn't been the best season in the peaks tbh

late start (for my area), then a brief wave of considerable flushes around second week of sept..been pretty sparse since

oh well,,,not every year can be a bumper harvest,,, however,,the current weather trends year-on-year are worrying not just for libs but everything

My Facebook is full of morons posting photos of picked fruits, on real name accounts, in groups called stuff like Psychedelic Healing. I would expect glowies to go for them first.

This site is sooo slow and clunky and really needs rebooting as a subreddit. It just took me 20 mins to log in.

More cheerfully; Devon was dead in October but just come to life. I just found a motherlode at 410 metres and 2 miles walk from the nearest road and scoring 100 to 150 grams per outing.
