Re: Brahmi - it’s gotta be good when now-sober Asante has a kilo in the freezer ^_^ [Re: Asante] * 1

Rasayanas are rejuvenating drugs in India, the kind of drug that is severely neglected in the western medical system that produces a drug for a specific 'disease' and not for health improvement.

Ashwagandha is the male vitality/reproductive rasayana, and has been shown experimentally to increase testosterone after exercise. But that may contribute to some of its negative symptoms.

Brahmi works very differently and primarily targets acetylcholine. Its mechanism of action is similar to racetam type drugs. But it has been used for longer and likely has a better safety profile than the racetams.

I remember for a while there was a craze of these cocktails of many different herbs and supplements to try to increase 'brainpower'. Well the only one that showed consistent promise and replicable results was Brahmi. Joe Rogan used to peddle some gross drink that had its main ingredient as Brahmi.

I recommend you not take any supplements or anything that isn't prescribed by your doctor, Asante.
You've made similar posts like this in the past for other drugs, such as memantine. I told you it was risky and gave you warning, and you ended up in the hospital recently for a long time.
I really urge you to not take up new drugs on your own.
This thread title is "sober-Asante" but you're literally talking about taking a new drug in it, seem contradictory.

Bacopa isn't much more a drug than chamomile or mint  - def not anywhere remotely inthe realm of mematine or a 'psychoactive compound'

Thank you. I felt actually belittled.

Why do you feel belittled by someone trying to protect you after you just got out of the hospital and recovery center where you spent weeks or even months straight? You talked the exact same way about memantine the way you're talking about Brahmi; very superfluous positive comments. It feels like a pattern with you and I don't want you to end up back in the hospital. :mushroom2:

As far as psychoactivity brahmi basically has none, or almost none.

A dose of 500mg purified extract is on the high side but still a very normal dose.

I guess it could be abused like anything else, but as likely to have bad health outcomes as to take regular doses of ibuprofen, I think.

I was using another ayurvedic herb called "gotu kola" that is often used alongside brahmi and might have similar effects.

I used brahmi as well for a while but not long enough to comment on it's effects.

But you definitely have got me interested to experiment again.

However, gotu kola was a real ally for me. Plus, it just tastes so good as an herbal tea that it makes it easy to remember to take my medicine.

So glad you are finding benefit from this ancient plant-medicine.
