Dodgy Tripping Companions! * 2
    #29709371 -

Hi all,

I tripped for a few years with a work colleague, but I stopped inviting him round a year ago because he was becoming very negative and controlling. We got some 150ug blotters and the first time we tried them, he turned up having stopped smoking that day. Three hours in he was complaining he wasn’t tripping. I eventually said yes mate this is beyond tripping isn’t it. At which point he got aggressive and started swearing.

Anyway the next five trips he complained about my music playlist.

Now let’s not forget, I was making him comfortable and welcome, and going the extra mile. But he was complaining at random intervals bout stuff he had liked the week before, for example. The final straw was when 8 mentioned that David Bowie is really good with psychedelics. He told me Bowie was in his top three artists. So anyway, halfway through the Hunky Dory album, 8 noticed he was rocking back and forth, stamping his feet, head in hands mumbling no more Bowie, no more Bowie.

That was the last straw for me so we fell out and I stopped inviting h8m round.

Getting there….

I picked up some really good 250ug acid and wanted to share it with him. We made up, he apologised profusely for his past behaviour, and we agreed we would listen to a playlist I had been working on for a few months. It contains a lot of trance and works beautifully with acid. Five to six hours into our trip, I sat him in the centre of the speakers and I put on an absolute classic album: Euphoria. For the mind, body and soul. Mixed by PF Project. Within ten minutes I was floating, proper tranced out. It is simply beautiful. But noticed he was pulling a funny face. Five minutes later he had removed himself to the living room and sat there for the duration of the alb7m with his fingers in his ears.

I don’t about you guys, but I found it incredibly rude. And fecking childish, noting he is 65.

I’ve kept it all civilised, but I will not be inviting him round ever gain. For me trips are sacred, and as I’m approaching 60, I do not know how many trips I will have left. I certainly
Y don’t want to be wasting time with the wrong trip companions. Negative energy in a trip space, apart from potentially leading to bad trips, for me just ruins the trip. I cannot relax when somebody is obviously not enjoying themselves.

I don’t want to go into the why’s and what’s etc, just wondered what experiences you may have had with tripping companions?

Mush love,
DJ Ed

Damn man, sorry to hear it!
Sounds like you gave your pal benefit of the doubt and it was, sadly, the wrong call.

It can really start to send you west when folk are completely unwilling to even TRY to accept circumstances that aren't 100% to their liking, let alone get with the programme entirely.
Compromise is very much needed on group trips, and when it's all pointed one way- what a piss take that feels like.
Worse in some ways when YOU'RE the host...

Once, on acid also, one guy had zoned out with his earbuds in, the guy whos house we were at was drunk AF as well & somehow turned the tv off from the shitty music (already refusing to put the speakers on for screen free/ ad free music.....)
so it was just silent with him giggling & the TV sat on the source selection screen. I reckon he'd sat on the remote.
Big light was on in the room and everything man.

I didn't know the gaff and so couldn't see the wall socket, nor did the TV have any discernable buttons. So I asked my pal "Pleae can you give me the remote so I can change source? Where is the source button?" he would take it as philosophical like "AH THE SOURCE! WHAT IS THE SOURCE?! WE MUST GET TO THE SOURCE!" and laugh like a fuckin maniac. Looping like that for ages, among other annoyances. Eventually I just raided his fridge, went through into his bed with his cat and just made myself at home with a DTFH podcast episode, leaving them to get on with it through there.
:huxleyfacepalm:
Moments on that trip stressed me out so much- that I won't go into- that I didn't do acid for like 2 and a bit years.

Had many trips like that with people where the lack of care (or my perception of their lack of care, being that if I am still in body during a trip and my friend wants a drink, or weed or whatever, I try to accomodate. We're in it together, is my view, and tasks are an adevnture together) for the experience etc really bummed me out, whereas there are a select few who- when we trip together- it is absolutely transcendental & we're just along for the ride together.

Makes it harder to discount group tripping alltogether, when you know the potential is there for such connection & enjoyment/enrichment.

Pretty much have 1 guy who I can ALWAYS trip with no qualms, other than that I prefer solo. The thing that gets me, is then having to police my mindset while I'm tripping balls, not to like tell the wrongdoer off for being a fuckign sack. EOTD, everyone is allowed to trip how they want, but when someones obstinance is impeeding the trip of others, thats a drag.
Also having to snap out of your own trip to assuage someones repetative crisis or w/e, also a drag.

I'd drop acid with you Dj Ed- I'm not a trance fan, but at least there would be no stomping or fingers in ears.

Thanks bud. Trance is just ne genre I like. I never understood people taking acid at raves but I get it now. The music sounds almost as heavenly as if you’re on mdma, and sometimes sounds better, but without the two week comedown. First t8me I tried ecstacy I remember saying to my mate, this is just like acid but without the fear!

Thanks for uploading your thoughts mate, confirmed it’s not me. I do have people I really enjoy tripping with, but as you get older those opportunities are few. That’s why I couldn’t believe my luck introducing a work colleague to mushrooms and he fully got it. Sharing acid trips 8n the beginning was amazing. Just being able to turn to someone after an awesome track has been on and being able to say wow, did you get that?

But he has become the expert. He’s tripped now for two and half years as compared to my measly 40 years, so wtf do I know? In all other respects he can be a lovely guy too. It’s such a shame, he’s spoiled it for both of us. That’s how I read it now.

Take care
DJ Ed

I get that redgreenvines. But we discussed the playlist beforehand and he agreed to give it a fair chance. An example of what I’ve been patient with. The first trip together I introduced dance music to him. He kicked off big time. Within a couple of weeks, his playlists contained many of the same tracks he’d kicked off against at my house. That’s why I used the term “controlling”. He seems perfectly happy if he chooses a track.

I put Infected Mushroom back on for him after the euphoria. In many ways it’s exactly the same. But he talked throughout the album telling me how infected take him on musical journeys, whereas trance I selected did not. I beg to differ redgreenvines, everything I put on takes me on a journey.

I think I’ve been patient. Our six last trips together last year, and our firs5 trip together this year after apologising profusely, he kicked off in the same way.

I’ll be tripping alone for the foreseeable. We can then both enjoy our own trips with our ow choices 👍🏻

Trust me, I get it, it's where I wouldn't put trance on by myself but if my pals who know their stuff'd put it on, I'd at least try to vibe til song ended. Whole album would be a stretch unless explicity agreed to attempt.
Used to bosh enough mandy, but got tired of the comedown as well.

Anyway, no sweat for the :twocents: its a bit healthy to assume the problem is you, but sometimes it can be other people- good to test your intuition. After that trip I mentioned to you, I spent a while thinkin "Am I just an arsehole?!?!?"

I also love that feeling you mention, that "Did you get that too?!" some of my fave trips are just sitting with a good trip buddy with music and muted Attenborough- or just music in the dark- and reacting to the music/ each others response.

Hey even though you can't trip with this guy any more (even if he's sound else wise), at least he has graduated to becoming an expert, we ought at least to be happy for him in that regard

Ex raver from back in the day here. Yes Trance isn't for everyone, but in the situation you described I find it incredible anyone could be annoyed to the point of putting their fingers in their ears over it, and you have been more than polite to your guest. Anyways heres to more adventures with new friends DJ Ed:thumbup:

Cheers bro. My conscience is clear. I reached out t9 h8m, got him 50 Pokémon blotters, made hi:welcome and comfortable, fed and watered him, let him have my bed while I slept on the couch. We even agreed that he would not complain during the trip (perfect) and that we would discuss the 0laylist the following day.

I asked my daughter about it. Never mind the acid. I just said if you went to a party at somebody’s house and you didn’t enjoy a particular cd, would you sit there for 45mi utes with your fingers in your ears. She said absolutely not dad!

But I’ve been talk8ng about this cd to him for two years. You cannot get those euphoria trance versions on Spotify, even though there are playlists up with the same name. So I bought a copy off amazon to 0lay to him.  On my way! On, how can you judge a cd with your fingers in your ears throughout. And the real irony, about four or five of the tracks on that cd, were already on my Spotify playlist, with versions remarkably close. Yet he said he enjoyed those because they took him somewhere, but didn’t enjoy what in my opinion is an even better trance version of certain songs.

The version of Cafe del Mar - Energy 52 on the euphoria album is sheer bliss. He disagreed.

I don’t need to fall out with h8m. I’ve realised he is not compatible as a trip companion. Each to their own mate. But I really do feel sorry for him, he is so close minded.

Cafe del Mar - Energy 52 is great but the first 45 seconds has lots of high end stuff I don't hear but can tell it could be unnerving.

anyway, a person's life arc naturally involves pairings and separations. you can be open to reconnection, but also can use those 250mic blotters your own way and benefit very nicely

It’s really nice acid redgreenvines. Given how strong it is, the come up is in no way brutal. I was pretty impressed. I don’t usually get visuals on acid either, well not until four hours in when I start the weed. With the new 250ug pokemon, I’m getting strong visuals without weed by two hours. Nice stuff.

Yes fully agree my friend. I’ve done my bit, introduced him gently to psychedelics and shown him the ropes. I’ve shared my music tastes with him, and in general he agrees. He is a Shpongle advocate so isn’t all bad!

I do get a buzz from sharing this knowledge 👍🏻

Ran it past ChatGPT. Here is the AI summary:

And mate, I want to remind you of something you've already worked out for yourself: loneliness is not a good enough reason to keep repeating an experience that makes you unhappy. You gave George an opportunity, you tried to make it work, and you made a genuine effort to accommodate him.

this is exactly why i trip alone, other than around my wife who knows to treat me gently in that state. i'm self conscious enough about my taste in music after a lifetime of people giving me shit for not listening to "real music" that i dont even want to open the door to that shit while tripping. is a tripping companion even so worth it?

I’ve tripped solo for decades. In fact I’ve found over the years that I cannot trip on mushrooms with people….especially George mentioned above. But I got back into acid a few years back and discovered it is really social. As well as long lasting! You can talk to each other without destroying the trip. And it’s great to share these experiences and compare notes. But the last few trips I had with my trip buddy, I could not relax. I was too wrapped up in whether or not he was enjoying the music,

Reached out to h8m this year as I thought he was missing out. He was very grateful and agreed to try again, but with some consideration. I’ve learned a lesson mate with him. I trip occasionally with my son and a few choice mates but those trips unfortunately are few and far between.

I’m going to make up for lost time this weekend and experience 5he trance alone 👍🏻

Every single noise other people make when I'm on shrooms bothers me tremendously. I close myself in the bedroom with the door shut and give explicit instructions to leave me alone until I come out.

I trip alone cause all I want to do is listen to Jazz the whole time. and no one wants to listen to that much jazz.....

Are you and said work companion compatible and hang just normally? he also could have well intentions to not do these childish things before, but then when the acid kicks in those thoughts just kinda fly out the window, you know what I'm saying?

The only other person I feel comfortable tripping with is my partner. We've been together almost 10 years. I had some just sketchy tripping times with other people when I was younger were people would get strange and aggressive. Its not fun wondering if someone's going to get violent or irrational with a head full of acid.

I just cant relax around you unless I'm really comfortable around someone. And psychedelics can make people act fucking strange.

It might just be me but I think tripping is some of the best quality alone time you can have.

not just you

and alone is what we are when together, anyway, except for the distractions emanating from the others that we take notice of and react to.

Yes we got to ‘now each other at work and then he came round for a poker night. After chatting we realised we had a lot in common. I mentioned mushrooms to him and twelve months later he came round. But tripping together I think has pushed us apart. I agree with you and with redgreenvines, we are alone. In fact I used to say, you’re born alone, you trip alone, you die alone. It’s a shame though, the first year taking acid with h8m it was so much fun and you can go so much stronger with company. I never got to trip with my (ex) wife of 37 years, I’ll always regret that. She might have understood me better! I feel blessed though that I’ve tripped with my eldest son. I’m always open and honest with my children. It would be nice though in future to be able to share more trips.

As I said above I simply cannot trip with people with mushrooms. However, when I do trip with mushrooms and get to the euphoric peak, I generally have to sit down to let the overwhelming emotion out that I want to share this experience with the world!

Regarding my mate, yes you could be right. It could be a matter of him reacting differently on acid. I forgot to mention, and it’s probably relevant, that about three hours in he took a second blotter. Within an hour he could not talk or recognise anything I was saying to him. So hmm yes on reflection maybe that had something to do with his behaviour. Let’s be honest, putting your fingers in your ears is not normal no-tripping adult behaviour when it’s just you and a friend listening to the same album that you have previously discussed……

Maybe I’m naive.

Love to all
DJ Ed ❤️
