Lycoperdon perlatum? * 1
    #29705487 -

Grew on leaf litter.

White gleba.

Covered with tiny bumps (spikes) which easily fall off when touched.

A slightly more mature specimen was a bit browner on top, inside all white like the others tho.

Any other species I can confuse this with?

I heard L. perlatum is edible :sun:

Nice ID on the Lycoperdon perlatum! They’re ok fall edibles. I only fry them in butter so essentially just a vehicle for the butter but you can prepare them many ways.  Only eat the ones that are pure marshmallow white on the inside.

Yes, they are edible and quite tasty. I find a couple of handfuls every year in same spot.
I sauté them with a little oil, garlic, and pepper flakes for an afternoon snack.

The only other species you can confuse them with could possibly be the Scleroderma mushrooms, but they are purple on the inside not white. Also toxic not edible. Even without cutting them open, once you see them in the wild, you can easily tell them apart.
