My Thiamine/Benfotiamine B1 Diabetes T2 Stack
    #29691850 -

I've been prescribed 4x 25mg Thiamine HCl (vit B1) for my diabetes type 2 with complications, such as nerve damage and advanced glycation.

It wasn't covered by my insurance and the pharma brand was outrageously expensive.

I wanted more, so I have sourced 250mg Thiamine HCl pills and Benfotiamine 150mg capsules. Benfotiamine is a Japanese B1 derivative that has a longer halflife and does not use the B1 transporter to be absorbed, which causes much higher plasma levels and especially high B1 levels in the myelin sheaths of nerve tissue, exactly where you want B1 to show up for diabetic and neurological purposes.

I break the 250mg tabs in two, so i have 2x 125mg, which I alternate with 2x 150mg benfotiamine, so 4 doses in all, divided across the day.

Impressive dose but, diabetics and other neurological patients like people with alcoholic dementia (korsakoff) can go way higher. Still much cheaper than the pharma 25mg tabs

Ive been doinng this for several weeks now aaaaaand..

I could drop my daily jab of 10 units slow acting insulin :birthday:

Very happy to be off insulin to say the least.

Blood sugar is fine, even after starchy meals like oatmeal.

CAN RECOMMEND!

B1 is a rarely though of B vitamin that is a powerhouse for a number of conditions.

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is an often-overlooked but essential nutrient that helps convert carbohydrates into energy, supports nerve function, and enables the brain, heart, and muscles to work properly. Adequate B1 is particularly important in type 2 diabetes (DT2), where research suggests thiamine metabolism may be altered and urinary losses increased; supplementation may help correct deficiency, but evidence that it improves blood sugar control or prevents diabetic complications remains inconclusive. In chronic alcohol misuse, B1 is especially vital because alcohol can impair its intake, absorption, storage, and utilisation, increasing the risk of serious neurological damage, including Wernicke–Korsakoff syndrome; prompt thiamine treatment can prevent or limit harm when deficiency is suspected. B1 also plays a role in treating deficiency-related fatigue, muscle weakness, nerve pain, and peripheral neuropathy, and is essential in beriberi, a deficiency disease affecting the nervous system and cardiovascular system. It supports normal cognitive and cardiac function and may be beneficial in people with inadequate nutrition, malabsorption, or increased requirements.

Other potential areas of interest include heart failure associated with thiamine deficiency, certain cases of unexplained lactic acidosis, and neurological complications following bariatric surgery or prolonged malnutrition. However, B1 is not a universal treatment for these conditions: its clearest benefits occur when deficiency is present or strongly suspected, and evidence for high-dose supplementation in people with adequate B1 levels is much less certain. In particular, a systematic review of six trials involving 364 adults with DT2 found no significant improvement in blood glucose or HbA1c from thiamine or benfotiamine supplementation over the studied periods.

My recommendation for just about anyone with diabetes type 2 or who drinks substantially to get on B1, doesnt have to be as strongly as I do it but more and more research shows the B1 deficiency/DT2 link and doctors for the most part are unaware. Diabetes and alcohol use eat up B1 stores, and a blood test is not very revealing as you can have normal blood levels of B1 but deficiencies in tissues that matter.

B1 can be dirt cheap and yes, you can totally break pills.
