I cleaned carpets briefly a decade ago. I didn’t mind the work itself but being alone in stranger’s homes was terrible. More recently I worked for a stonemason who taught me the base skills of the trade. That was some work I genuinely enjoyed and mercifully all the work was outdoors. I still didn’t love interacting with the homeowners but at least I was always 2nd banana and leaned into that role.

Now I get to be agoraphobic and work from home :farmerdance:

Yeah being in someone's personal space is a different ball game.

Seen some hoarders that literally only had a slim path through the house.

One dude pulled a sex doll out on me and tried to get me to touch it. I was about to knock him out.

And of course that dude was training to be an elementary school gym teacher.

Most people are cool though really. Some give me cash and liquor so.

Yeah the masonry was pretty fun and I've been able to apply a lot of those skills to doing some repairs at the new spot. The carpet cleaning sort of set me up for failure cause I was there to clean and some of those places were pretty goddamned gross. The sights were easier to block out of my memory but the smells... Dear God the smells...
