I have those thorn armor ones. I still get poked on the side of my fingers every now and then, but they work really well. They are kinda pricey, but have better dexterity and thorn resistance than leather gloves IME.

@Galt- that looks like sun damage. Higher temps can increase the risk of sunburn, so can dry soil.

Randomly and unexpectedly, especially for my area, came across this TBM on Facebook marketplace.
$10 fuckin bucks.
Sooooolllddddddd
Pretty sure it’s the B type, short form.
Though I’m not quite sure what’s the deal with that pup, do they usually look like that?
This is my first weird one.

Looks like short form to me. And the pups often come out weird like that. They will plump up as they grow in fully.

I haven't moved it at all but we have had a recent heatwave for the last few weeks so perhaps related to that. It's gets morning sun until around noon then is shaded the rest of the day.

It’s certainly not variegation, and if you haven’t moved it it’s not sun burn but could possibly be related to the heat. I don’t like how it looks though, if it were mine I would isolate it and see what it does.

End of my summer. Those tbm-b went crazy. That's one year. But I had them under lights all winter. These seedlings are going under lights this winter.

hard to tell but there's actually 5 flowers in this picture, 4 finally bloomed from this

and here's the one branch with a single bloom, same cactus

funny thing is, i was about to prune the plant, but decided to let it flower when i saw it budding.  then the day after this picture was taken, the top 18" broke off from the weight of the flowers.  so then i cut off another 2' to prune that branch nearly to the bottom.

now i've got over 3' in the freezer, i plan to cut off the skin and spines, and remove the juicy part from the core, and dehydrate that, then make it into a powder.  not sure what i'm going to do with the powder, yet, though. (not sure if i want to make it into powder or not, tea could be best with dried chunks or something... this would be my first time consuming a significant dose of cactus, not sure if i want tea or what, any suggestions?)

I have recently grafted 2 peyotl onto the smaller plant on the right, will probably graft more after waiting a while (but before winter sets in).  Then i plan to cut off the top 1' of each cactus including the grafts next year(?), to root those and start a-new.

Really started propagating mutants recently. Bought 40 stock and made 40 grafts, 1 failed cause it was too small. Got a little army of weirdos now

Is there any point in trying to graft a cactus during fall or should I wait until spring?

I graft all season long. If you want fast growth, graft during peak growing conditions. If you want to propagate and have new cacti, graft whenever you want

Penis cactus: small balls edition

CSD on wobble. Really looking forward to this getting big enough to put on its own roots. Got this cutting last year and it has gone through it.

Alright thanks! I want to graft a smaller one to the root stock of a larger one and propagate/eat the rest. So it's safe to do this now it seems but will it effect how it grows when growing season comes? I have no issues waiting for spring if that's more optimal but I want to try mescaline and also if I want more cacti.

It will slow down growth depending on how you keep your other cacti. I keep mine around 40-50 over winter. On warm days when it gets to 60 outside (typically have a very mild winter until it's January/February then it's very cold) I'll have some growth spurts. If you keep your cactus around 70-80 inside you shouldn't see any slowed growth. Usually I'll graft thumbnail or smaller size pieces in October/November. By next year they're about thumb size and ready for a major growth spurt in march
