THIS POST IS A PSA TO NOOBS/ and a refresher course for the Vets.
The purpose of this post is to eliminate the mental clutter of unnecessary steps when cultivating Psilocybin Cubensis Mushrooms (Cubes).
Since people love to just do what they've always done, Im going to incept into your mind that this is what you have always been doing.
THE EXACT MOMENT When a cultivator (YOU ๐ซต) spawns their fully clean and 100% colonized grain spawn to a monotub (or a jug/ water bottle/ or pf tek/ top fruiting/ whatever you like to fruit mushrooms in, etc.), congratulations!, you have now entered the stage formally known as FRUITING CONDITIONS.
It is called this because the mycelium has what it needs (nutrients, water, & air) to create FRUITING BODIES (aka mushrooms)
This goes for PLINS as well. Plins are PINS (TINY FRUITING BODIES) that have fruited on agar plates. Since an agar plate has nutrients (of your choice) and agarified (solidified) water and air, it has exactly what it needs to create FRUITING BODIES (aka mushrooms)
Now, your job as a cultivator is to find and hold the ever so delicate balance of RelativeHumidity (RH) and FreshAirExchange (FAE) within your FRUITING CHAMBER (FC). Each cultivator "Dials In" their own FC relative to the environment in their own GROW ROOM.
The goal of dialing in your FC is to successfully maintain that delicate balance of RH and FAE which results in IDEAL SURFACE CONDITIONS. When you successfully can maintain Ideal Surface Conditions, this is when you get the most bang for your buck, and you will get the most of your chosen mushrooms.
And now, on to dispelling the most persistent unnecessary step when cultivating cubes that pervades the new people who attempt to grow them.
The most unnecessary step when cultivating cubes is this: to attempt to change that delicate balance of RH and FAE from the time that the mycelium is colonizing the entire substrate, and the time that the mycelium produces fruiting bodies (aka mushrooms).
This old myth pervades the community because at first glance, it makes sense. People used to plug all of the holes in their modifies monotubs in order to: 1) prevent contamination, and 2) let c02 build up to signal to the mycelium that it was still underground and needs to colonize further.
So let us dispel these reasonable fears that newbies have to make you confident in your abilities.
1) 100% fully colonized and clean grain spawn is king. This means that if you have 100% fully colonized grain spawn that is clean (meaning free from contamination), it is damn near impossible for any contaminants to get a foothold on your substrate after you have spawned your grain to it (assuming that you successfully pasteurized your nutritious substrate).
2) When you Spawn to Bulk (S2B), the simple fact that the mycelium is literally under the substrate that you have spawned to(where there is limited oxygen, and where carbon dioxide builds up due to the mycelium breathing) is in itself the signal that tells it to colonize further.
When the mycelium finally colonizes to the top layer of your substrate, it finally gets a taste of that sweet oxygen that it has been searching for.
Now that it has Nutrients, Water and Air, it signals to the entire mycelial culture: LETS GROW MUSHROOMS!
As stated before, your job is to maintain ideal SURFACE CONDITIONS. You simply do this by monitoring that the surface of the fully colonized substrate has so many beads of water that you literally cant count them all. You make sure that they stay as water droplets and that they dont clump together forming pools of water.
See the countless beads of water reflected by the camera flash here:
Pools of water are not ideal because then the mycelium cant breath, and if they cant breath, they are missing one of the ingredients to produce mushrooms (nutrients, water, air)
If the surface of the colonized substrate doesn't have beads of water covering it, its the same story, it is missing one of the ingredients to produce mushrooms (nutrients, water, air)
Now here is the reassuring part, almost nobody gets this balance perfect on their first try. Think about when you first tried to ride a bike, you weren't exactly Lance Armstrong, so give yourself some grace and keep going until you see it is perfect.
Now, with this knowledge under your belt...
its time for the NOOBS/ to grow boatloads of CUBES/
(metaphorically speaking)
