I confess I've messed up...

During last transfers of ochras I was sloppy and somehow dragged some green mold along on the one I didn't cabin sequester. And the two I did cabin sequester I was so frickin sloppy there's growth everywhere so I am unsure if it's contammed eather just yet. In a few days il know

Though the real mess up is I used my last agar plates till the 28th when I get my PC n make more so I'd these ochras or any of the other genetics I been cleaning up contams il end up doing emergency transfers to grains as last ditch effort (worst worst case il go back to spores though yea I'ma try to prevent that 😅

If you have a PC — yes. If you don't, I personally wouldn't dare.

Maybe ground instant/rolled (edit) oats would hold up alright after steaming, but I haven't tested it myself.

I've actually been here since at least 2002. I'm locked out of original account Shroomer #2. Had a period of heavy drinking and lost access to that and email addresses.

My first posts were about growing Liberty caps which I used to pick here in Canada. I haven't come very far and shit post in the pub mostly.

I'm very excited to grow finally and am trying my best to nail it first time. I eat mushrooms at least once a month for a few years now but did take a break from all substances in my mid 30's.

My buddy sells nice ounces of cubes for $100 Canadian but even buying premade grow stuff I can do it a lot cheaper if all goes well. Plus I just want to grow.

I'm currently trying to soak up everything cultivation here like a sponge. Thanks for being here everybody.

I actually use an instant pot but either would work.  It's basically doing PF Tek with less substrate.  There's a whole thread on it here:

Any grain flour works with this.

Sure — I'm not saying other flours don't work.

I just doubt they can be sufficiently sterilized with just steaming in a regular pot, which doesn't get above 100°C.

It's the same reason why preparing whole grains other than brown rice using steam alone isn't very successful.

And from what I gather — Blood won't get their PC until the 28th.

That's awesome your dad was a shroomerite!
My parents used to trip too and support me tripping still. They talked about moving 100k+ hits of acid at a time on trains at one point back in the day. They were badasses. I showed my dad the shroomery once and he thought it was rad. I have smoked and grown weed with my folks but never tripped with them. They are quite elderly now so my chance to do that has probably passed.

Will update with better pics in a couple days as it progresses. Pretty sure it's mycelium. Been keeping my place warm at 24 Celsius.

Which is why flours and vermiculite, not whole grains, can be sufficiently sterilized at lower temperatures.  Not only is the nutrients lower but all the moisture is locked up in the vermiculite, which also retains the heat longer.  Even whole brown rice that's been steam sterilized has a higher rate of contamination vs vermiculite and grain flours IME.  I'm not spreading misinformation intentionally, I'm speaking from experience.

I knew I was running low on plates and finally placed an order- used to pay 60 bucks for a case of 500, now 110, and 4 week lead time :facepalm:. Should have ordered earlier. Got about two sleeves poured... gonna be doing more pucks than usual I think. I do have about a dozen borosilicate guys but they're such a pain to work with :facepalm3:.

^ sauce container cups, 3.5oz. A restaurant supply store should have em.

They are effectively sterile because they are sleeved immediately when manufactured, and I don't think molten plastic can truly harbor bacteria or mold.
