Bridgesii cutting question * 1
    #29657795 -

I have two bridgesii that grew the majority of their lives on a windowsill. At the suggestion of you guys I moved them outside for the summer and they got much thicker at the tops and both have a pup growing! This fall I'll have to bring them in but they will be too big. I'd like to harvest them but is there a way to do it so the pups will still grow? Thanks!

They look as though they did enjoy being outdoors.

You can cut them anywhere you want above the pups and the pups will grow next season.

Use a clean, sharp knife or fine toothed saw. Wipe this down with isopropanol, methylated spirits or alcohol to sterilise before or just use a clean implement.

Cutting on an angle is preferred, 45 degrees or so. This helps any water to slide off and not pool.

Keep the fresh cut out of the rain until it heals.

Thank you very much for the info. I'll cut them down right short to a stump. Thanks again!

Chopped them down!

Gonna cut all the spines out then cut them into stars. I see a lot of contradicting info about whether to cut the cores out and the skin off or just leave it all?

Here's final product. What I did was remove spines, waxy skin, and woody core. Dehydrated until cracker dry (took a long time), then blended into powder. The plan is to make it into a tea, but probably won't be for a while, like even a year or so. I vacuumed sealed it with a dry pack. Would it be better to put in freezer or leave in a dark dry place?

Don’t mind me. I have nothing to add. I’m just here to learn.
