Alternative salvia cutting technique

Alternative salvia cutting technique..
Simply cut a double triangle from a plastic bag.
Leave one side attached and cut the others if needed.
Place the right angle at the bottom of the stem and tape the side.
Secure bottom of the bag round the stem making sure there is no gaps.
The top should be left open at this stage.
Add soil to the pocket you have created.
Add some water.
Tie at the top with some tape, elastic band or wire.
Support with a stick.
When roots have formed use a sharp knife to cut below the roots.







That's it
Hopefully roots will form and establish them selfs before you take the cutting.
This should result in a less stressed cutting, which can be potted right away.

good idea england.....seems like it would work well since salvia is always ready to root from anywhere.....good post....

How much success have you had with this method?

I've tried cloning for the first time recently, silly me tried just using the leaves as cuttings, don't think it'll work, however they're not dead yet. The reason I took leaves was because I thought it'd work and because I've only got a couple of branches and they aren't very long.

First time with salvia with this technique, but I am 99% sure it will work.

I don't think the leafs will work as cuttings as no branches will form from that part of the plant. You could take a cutting from the top of your plant and it will continue to grow from the branches which will appear were the leafs are.

I have some tips on taking cuttings on my web site, but it needs some improvements
