Not if you eat pounds of them like that idiot Terrence McKenna.
If you eat them in reasonable quantities  from time to time then they will impart great, profound wisdom upon you and heal your entire cellular structure.
I love psilocybin mushrooms they are God and Goddess.

In short, no. Generally it's much much safer just to never take them because there are risks involved and for some people the consequences of that can be life-altering, or even life ending.

They do give benefits to some people who use them, but it can't be said for all. I myself have experienced both sides of this coin.

Saying psychedelics are 'healthy' is more likely than not to be a dangerous message. Your chance of getting something good out of them is definitely much larger than the opposite, but the opposite can be catastrophic so it's really not worth it for some people. I think they definitely introduce you to a more true way of thinking, and more accurately a true way of perceiving the world & universe (I can only speak for myself though of course), so for me they've been worth it. But doing too much can be seriously harmful and make you go weird and very far out of touch with the rest of the world, which is generally not good for you as a human in a human society.

Even just a few experiences of my own have caused me to feel seperate to others around me, because I'm constantly aware of the monumental change psychedelics have brought onto me and my psyche.

But in terms of neurotoxicity and organ toxicity in general, psilocybin is just about the safest psychoactive drug you can take - especially in comparison to alcohol which is known to be neurotoxic and have an interference with neurogenesis. As I mentioned, it's still likely much healthier to just stay sober from everything though.

We are inculcated from birth in the cultural norms of the society we live in, and this results in our being "blind" to how warped the modern mode of living is.

The alienation and blind consumerism is psychologically traumatizing, and the accelerating rape and plunder of the planet—of nature's delicate ecosystems—is nothing short of absolute, monstrous madness. I'm heartsick about it, and do not see any reason to judge my separateness from conventional societal attitudes and behaviors as a bad turn.

Indeed, what is more pathological—I'd even say outright sick—than banning the consumption of mind-expanding substances that grow naturally in shit on a pasture? But society threatens anyone who wishes to explore their own consciousness or plumb the mysteries of existence (as humans have done since paleolithic times) with legal sanctions, including imprisonment. Even those whose illicit activities elude detection are often harried by an oppressive sense of fear, anxiety, or guilt.

Modern society is sick at its core. That's been one of my takeaways from dosing shrooms on and off for the past eight years, and I've since read books that give me the receipts to prove it. It's always hard being the proverbial "black sheep," but sometimes the herd is wrong, and the lone seeker owes nothing to it—not the slightest twinge of guilt. It can be a lonely path, but that's the price to be paid for using psychedelics to see a mad system from the outside, and recognize it for what it is.

Check out the articles in the news section, including the recent one that showed they helped Lyme disease sufferers. The mouse and human cell studies published in 2025 were flat out mind blowing.

Start with micro dosing and slowly increase until you find your sweet spot, which may even be not using them. There’s no need to dive into the deep end to gain physical and mental health benefits either.

As powerful tools, risks and dangers exist, learning good techniques for their use is important.

The neurogenic, neuroplastic and anti-inflammatory effects alone are worth developing a relationship with the fungi. I have also experienced an improved gut biome, pain relief and what feels like a flushing out of toxins and stress. I believe we are just on the cusp of relearning how vital our symbiosis with these partners is.

I ran across those articles just today, when I was planning on posting several links to studies corroborating the benefits of shrooms! I gave up when time ran short and I decided there was just too much out there.

But yeah, the Lyme disease study was a real new one to me. I'll just throw it out here now:

I agree with you wholeheartedly. To be seperate from our backwards society is a good thing at heart, but at the end of the day society will treat you wrongly for it.

For me I don't know if just the knowledge that I've left behind a tremendous amount of naivety, and have begun to see things just a shred closer to how they really are is enough to make up for the loss of what society could have given me, what I could've done and how happy i could've been otherwise.
