Psilocin and psilocybin are not dopaminergic like LSD, but in high doses, they are adrenergic, with most of the molecule going to the adrenal glands of which there are many located throughout the body. The body has a limited capacity to produce adrenaline, if you produce too much too often, you'll burn your adrenal glands out eventually, supposedly.

It may also permanently alter your heart rhythm, although I think it has a normalizing effect on it if you don't go crazy with the doses.

Ya I don't know where I read that. A quick Google search says exactly the opposite for your personality at least.  Fuck....18 years ago we were being fed all sorts of bullshit, seems I just regurgitated it onto this thread, hence the "supposedly".  Being that it was 18 years ago, I don't feel advanced in my aging.  Quite the opposite in fact.  :cheers:

Crazy to think that guy from earlier in this thread who said he was in his 90s has almost certainly passed on by now.  Unless he was lying about his age

I've been tripping for the last 21 years of my life and have had hundreds of trips. The only effect that I have noticed on myself is when I smoke too much weed, I sometimes see my walls and ceiling breathe like when I'm tripping. For the most part I have only noticed positive effects on my such as a deeper insight into the world and religion.

hard to believe these post are from 21 years ago. I wish I would have discovered this forum sooner. I actually wanted to grow mushrooms back then. I was in high school. I knew I could purchase spores online. I just didn’t know what do to with them after that. I’ve only had my first tripping experience 2 years ago. It’s had a positive effect on my life.

The long lasting effects of seeing the universe will last a life time. You can’t unsee that. The deep relationship I have formed with my girlfriend will also always be with me. Looking into a mirror and seeing myself transform into a dragon… yeahthat’s gonna be a long term effect.  The effects that didnt last long was the motivation to do certain projects that I thought about during a trip. I started them but then became disinterested. In the past couple years I haven’t had a consistent supply my mushrooms. A couple months ago I decided to grow mushrooms myself. Thanks to YouTube and this forum I will have grown my own form spores this month. Maybe 21 years from now I will  repost here to give an account of my experience.

Old post but again don't care because people need proper information. Shrooms are def dopaminergic. Read into raphe cells and the whole 5ht2a system being synaptically connected to the d1-4 system. It's the reward network and shrooms boost norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. You may be 25% right only because we don't know if the dopamine release is direct or indirect do to the partial indole agonistic effect of shrooms.

If something impacts dopamine role of thumb it's highly likely to impact serotonin. Vice versa. To what degree depends on drug of choice and dosage. D1 is a primary reinforcer of the striatums reward reinforcement. Same with substantia nigra and other brain regions that make up the reward system. I'll give you an example of direct proof: it works by increasing and modulating glutamate which is the go sign for dopamine. You can't increase glutamate and sodium without increasing dopamine. You can't increase potassium or gaba or magnesium without decreasing dopamine through auto receptors downregulating g protein 5ht2a with 5ht1a activation due to raphe cells. This causes a massive 5ht2a downregulation especially if it's any of these configurations:
K>NA
Mg>NA
GABA>glutamate
5ht1a agonist=5ht2a antagonist (due to raphe cells)

******notes
Mg=magnesium
K= potassium
GABA= the bodies primary neurotransmitter wattage lowerer of dopamine and excitory neurochemicals. Green light for inhibitory neurons.
Glutamate= the bodies primary green light for excitory neurons. Red light for inhibitory neurons. (Dopamine functions more excitory like glutamate so anything to do with increased glutamate will cause a positive correlation increase in dopamine)
5ht1a= the raphe cells inhibitory neuron that is an auto-receptor. As soon as it's stimulated it goes to work by destroying serotonin and dopamine at amounts it's told to destroy (which can turn bad real quick depending on what you took to make this happen and how potent this effect is happening).

    Dopamine is excitory so is 5ht2a derived serotonin. Alcohol is a indirect gaba agonist so it won't speed you up unless you use low amounts or have high tolerance. Marijuana is a glutamate agonist at higher doses which is why there's people that don't get knocked out by it but it's an adenosine reuptake inhibitor which can cause the a1 receptor to turn off and build up sleepy chemical constituents.

Wow so interesting. What would these imbalances translate into in the long term? Psychosis or madness?:rolleyes:

Can you share the source of the relation between  5h2ta receptors and dopamine system? I only found that:
"5HT2A antagonism can increase dopaminergic neurotransmission in the nigrostriatal pathway, reducing the risk of extrapyramidal symptoms. It could also theoretically improve negative and cognitive symptoms in schizophrenia by increasing dopamine release in the prefrontal cortex"
