What's the best advice you've ever given or gotten? * 1

I have a few.

1. When you go to sleep, visualise your worries as a book. Visualise closing it. It is still there but it is not for reading right now. Read it when you have the time and space (this was from a patient)

2. PTSD will come and go. It's okay to work hard and have a setback. It's about how you move forward (this is from an artist I heard at the festival I went to last year)

3. Doing anything now to better your self, mental and physical health, means you're doing more than most people (that was from my ex who is a good friend).

4. My advice to people is to live life while you are alive. Don't squirrel shit away in the hopes of using or doing it in the future. You might be dead by then.

Some of the best advice I’ve received:

My grandpa - practicing moderation is the key to a long and happy life

My coworker - buy an electric car

My dad - you can talk your way out of 99% of situations, and for the 1% you can’t, fight to the death (really I practice this for the remembering to communicate part lol)

Myself to others:

Buy an electric car

Having money that you’ve worked to save up is one of the most liberating feelings you can experience

Lift up others around you, and in doing so you’ll lift yourself up (this only applies to non toxic personal relationships :smirk:)

If there has to be borrowing, be the one people borrow from and not the one who borrows from others.

That in terms of retirement savings, on average your money doubles roughly 3 times every 30 years if invested in a solid index fund like an S&P 500 fund.  So having $100k saved by 36 would turn into around $800k by retirement time even with no further contributions

I learned this somewhat later on (30ish) but it motivated me to start tucking a little away, which continues to add up

I love this. And yep, having money you saved yourself is so amazing. I took 5 months off this year, spend $20,000 aud of my own money to fund it. It sucks that it had to happen but there's not too many people who can say they supported themselves.

The other two are great too!
