I replanted my Pachanoi/Peruvianus 13 days ago, the roots and the soil were bone dry in the pot when I replanted it and so was the soil I replanted it in, I should water it at this point right?

I replanted it in the big 25cm pot I mentioned a page or so back so there's plenty of soil, should I completely soak it? It's placed in strong sunlight most of the day so I'm thinking a soak would be appropriate but I have no clue tbh:uhoh:

Maybe depends on season.. if winter just give a little water, if the direct sun is warm give a little more, if summer then give a soak through and water as usual.

You dont need to worry too much about heavily watering in like other plants.

In fact withholding water will force the roots to spread deeper into your new pot and soil faster as they search for water.

It has all that water and nutrients stored in the column as a reserve to survive on.

Having nicely aerated soil with scoria, pumice, perlite is good.

One thing cacti roots hate more than anything is sitting in cold, dense, dank, moist anaerobic soil for a long time... especially in winter.

The roots will just completely stop growing into the soil.

Trichocereus cacti are mountain rainforest cacti. It rains pretty often in the rainforest. Trichocereus cacti benefit from frequent watering except in the cold season. Some of mine I literally keep in buckets of water

Really....crazy...  In spring and summer I water a lot. I withhold water during winter unless they are especially thirsty and in well draining soil.

I have had them go almost dormant, weak, sick and etiolated just from sitting in bad soil.

Thanks fellas!

So to answer the questions I'm asking about watering right now when it's between 25-33Β°c outside so it's much hotter on the balcony due to the glass. The smaller pots dry out incredibly fast within a few days or max a week.

And the soil mix is about 50% planting soil, the rest is a mix of boiled grabble and perlite so it's nothing fancy just the same recipe I've been using until now.

I gave it a thorough soak! It definitely seems to like it already, it looks more plump now lol.

Another question is when is it optimal to make cuttings and graft them? The big guy is 58cm so I think it can be a good root stock and ready for cuttings but I've never done this before so obviously I don't wanna fuck my cactuses up:muppet: but I want to graft the smaller ones onto it. How many small ones can I graft on a big one or is there no limit as long as there is room for them?

Anybody wanna trade? Needing some spore syringes or lc. Everything I have is slanted and I work 7 days a week in the summer. So making plates and new lc and testing isn’t in the cards. I have some sick genetics! If this isn’t allowed, cool. I’ll try marketplace, just figured I’d offer here first. :rockman:

Trying to root some cutting i took and showing off some new growth this year. Got about 7in so far.


Going to buy a Bruce's Dragon cutting this week. Super excited cause thats my gov name. Lol. Gotta have that one. Still want a crested, TBM short and long.

I have an opportunity to graft peyotl onto these san pedro.  Because one is flowering, I'm going to leave that one alone for the time being, i think.  There are plenty of peyotl pups, though.

That leaves the pot on the right, which has 7 columns. 

Should i graft 7 peyotl onto this plant?  should they all be at the same height?  (how far up from the trunk?) Or should i leave room for growth/variance?  It would nice to keep the height of this plant down by grafting them all and not allowing upward columnar growth, i'm thinking.


should i graft some onto the flowering cactus too?  maybe just on the non-flowering branches?  or should I wait until it's done. 

I will be rooting most of the cuttings I cut, but for the ones that might be consumed, do i treat it differently than the ones callusing over to be rooted?  I read that alkaloid content goes up with drying, so would it be worth it to callus over then dry completely sliced in a dehydrator?  or just let it age a little bit before making a brew?  I'm considering making a tincture, but i've never prepared cactus before, or even had a significant dose.  would tea be the best way to experience it?

edit:
also, i've wanted to get that one on the right into a bigger pot for a while...  i think it's not doing as well as the other one because it's in a smaller pot... would it be good to up-pot it at the same time?  or would that be too stressful for it?

I'd guess it's probably the Icaros cross over the Misplant one. It's for sure not pure bridgesii.
