Noob question about humidifier and airflow
    #29644320 -

hello! Im loving the new experience of growing mushrooms but i cant find any information on setting up my humidifier and fan for my tent. All i find are the % ranges but im lacking on the knowledge and feel for when I should have the Humidifier turn off and on also with the fan. right now i have the fan turning on to push air/co2 out for 5 minutes every 25 minutes and the Humidifier turn on at 78% and turn off at 90%. my mushrooms seem to be aborts or short and fat most of the time.
Any knowledge tossed my why would be highly appreciated!

Welcome to the shroomery!:smile::mushroom2:

What type of mushrooms are you growing? And what does your set up look like? Let's see some pictures of those mushrooms as well, will help us better asses what's going on:mushroom2:

They stay fat and short most of the time. Second flush came out good but the first and third they just stay fat and short.

Sweet set up! Greenhouses like this are usually for the cultivation of edible or exotic species which require more airflow and particular settings. If you are growing Cubensis, you will find much easier success using something like shoeboxes, an ez dial mono tub or a water tub.

Shoeboxes

Ez dial monotub

Watertub

I'm not saying they can't be grown in greenhouses, I'm just saying only a handful of cultivators take this route and it's a more complicated fruiting chamber than required by the species.

What does stand out to me is the fact that a fan kicks on every 25min, this isn't doing your cubes any favors, and should be minimized. Too what setting? I couldn't tell you as I'm not a cultivator who uses a greenhouse for cubes. I use shoeboxes and water tubs. However that bad boy would grow you some awesome oysters:rockon::mushroom:

My advice is to save this for more edible and exotic species, and grow cubes using the more simple methods. If you are set on using a greenhouse for cubes, perhaps one of the handful around here doing so will grace us with they're presence. I'd be interested to find out myself.

I'm going to reach out to one of those cultivators and see if they can chime in, so we can both learn something new. Hold tight:mushroom2:

First thing I would recommend is you do your grow in aluminum pans being the excess water is detrimental to cubes
Poke holes in the bottom of the pan so no excess water pools in your substrate and I normally have my humidifier. Set on medium for 10 minutes on 30 minutes off.
I like my room temperature about 78° for this

And this is for exotics like pan and truffles
I’ve successfully grew pans in a Martha and I’ll let you know of a little trick that I learned

First off all the fans and all the garbage that you would hook up on Martha is not needed because the external humidifier gives plenty of fresh air exchange. This is my unit and my set up.

.

Here are the pans that I have grown

Since pan have a really bad time of aborting from excess moisture falling on the mushrooms, I developed this technique of using a square pan for the substrate and a rectangle pan on top to keep the excess moisture out, but all the humidity in

My substrate was feed grade wheat to colonize the mycelium
The substrate was 50%Coir and 50% steer maneuver from Home Depot
Runtime for the humidifier was set at full blast to 15 minutes on 15 minutes off
Room temperature was set at 80°

Just a quick cut and paste from a post I made a couple days ago … just look at the photo every thing you need is there
Anything you need can be found on Amazon for supercheap

Martha’s work fantastic for them

My setup up

I’ve been using my set up in my my house for the last 12 years you don’t need an exhaust fan
