Electrophoresis - isozyme analysis, Is it still a useful tool?

Is this something I should spend time learning?

I've been reading some papers and have come across this a few times now. I have the required equipment and understand the bare basics of how to do it but short of answering if I think something is in the same family/section im not sure why I would want to or if I would ever need to.

Seems like laccase would be the easiest one to start off with and it sounds like a fun little side project but again with sequencing being so easy for me to access is there any point?
