Syrian Rue extract, what to do with it?

I extracted harmine following this guide: https://wiki.dmt-nexus.me/Harmalas_Extraction_and_Separation_Guide

So in step 17 I precipitated the harmine by adding sodiumbicarbonate. Am I right that now I have a harmine freebase as opposed to a harmine salt? Can I use the freebase as is? Or should I convert it to a salt? And how should I consume it when taken the freebase and how when used as a salt? Smoke it, eat it?

Freebase can be smoked and swallowed, opposed to the salt which can only be swallowed.

When smoking only use a tiny pinch. A few milligrams (like 20 to 30mg) are enough for full effects, lasting up to an hour.

When swallowing, just put your dose (100mg to 150mg) into gel-caps and swallow with a glass of water. Or wrap it into cigarette papers and swallow.
The freebase does not dissolve in water, so don't try to stirr it into a liquid, it will remain solid.
Your stomache acid will convert it into a salt naturally after ingestion, so no problem with eating the freebase.

Gel-caps are the way to go. This way the effects take 30 to 45min to start and last a couple of hours..

You certainly elaborated on this already in detail. I'll push my luck and ask nonetheless. Is it worth it on its own? Or is it more interesting for psychonautic research purposes? What effects do you get at what dose?

Well, I have no first-hand experience dosing harmalas on their own, but they definitely have some effects.
They act as inhibitors for monoamino oxidation. This means they inhibit the breakdown and reuptake of not only psilocybin and dmt, but also of the natural human neurotransmitters serotonin, adrenaline and dopamine.

People say in moderate to high doses, they get some deam-like mind states with more saturated colours, mild tracers behind moving objects and mild CEVs and such. Not typically psychdelic, but noticable though.

Then I entirely misunderstood this thread and your post. I thought it's specifically about tripping on Syrian Rue alone.

Rue/Harmalas makes for a good natural anti-depressant with some interesting qualities but it's nothing particularly trippy, for the trippy trippy you need a Psychedelic-aspect like DMT or Psilocin added to the Harmalas. Harmalas on their own in higher dosages can cause some very mild closed eyed visual imagery, as well as strongly noticeable open eyed tracers and such, but the overall effect is more dreamy and tranquil and kinda/sorta meditative, it can even help give insight on occasion, it also makes music sound awesome (though at first music can sound sped up but once the body gets used to the Harmalas the sped up effect goes away and music just sounds good). Harmalas with Cannabis can also be cool to explore.

I've been taking Harmalas pretty much daily for 14 going on 15 years straight now. It has it's benefits, but if you wanna "trip", definitely add a Psychedelic to the mix.

It’s actually very psychedelic in the ‘mind manifesting’ sense of the term. It lacks the classic psychedelic’s iridescent hallucinations and CE/OE visuals, but it still produces a trip of sorts that is shaped and amplified by expectations and mood patterns/fluctuations.

I found it to be bizarre (spiritual but not to the reality when combined with DMT) and distinctly jittery and looping at the 10g range, with a host of unpleasant side effects that leeched poisonously into the overall experience.

I remember doing it in a very resistant frame of mind. I ate ten grams and immediately thought ‘ah pants why the hell did I do that’ and spent the initial part of the experience trying and failing (puking has always been impossible for me when I desperately want/need to puke!) to puke it all out!
I got to a significant degree, the experience I was expecting and it only got worse from there. You can surrender to it and it’ll be easier, but the experience will probably still be pretty drab cause it’s just a cheap and nasty experience at the end of the day (why nobody does it)! It has no real aesthetic qualities.

Just seems to be characteristically rather irritating, though the trip did still produce therapeutic after effects and was probably a net benefit in the end.
