I decided to post this here instead of derailing another forums thread.

I was given a statin, years back.
It caused dull pain in the liver.
I’m not stupid, not waiting for a paper to appear.
If it makes your liver ache it must go.
Simvastatin, I believe.

I've been taking Atorvastatin statin for 5 years. I have genetically high cholesterol. I do annual blood work but liver is fine so far. I don't consume alcohol or hard drugs.

Right in the abstract:

Quote:
Fortunately, severe liver injury is uncommon with statin use and is generally reversible without any intervention other than offending statin cessation.

So it is an uncommon side effect. Don't most medications have severe side effects that are uncommon?

That's over 5 year period. "Increased CPK (Creatine phosphokinase): 2.6%" each year of taking ,which at this point is 40 to 50 years.
Anything that was designed to prevent you from dying because it reduces "heart attacks and stokes" is a win vs long term damage.

This brought to you by the same medicine professionals that gave opiates to people for medical conditions.  Then without fixing said medical problems take away the opiates and replace it with Tylenol, you know increasing the pain of the patient with withdrawal and giving them a (hepatotoxicity) problem.

some of this can be tied to specific statin medications.

few years back i was put on Atorvastatin -LFT bloods through the roof  , switched to Simvastatin LFT bloods back to normal.

Yeah, have shied away from statins due to just not liking medications.

Am trying psyllium husk, and beta sitosterol, alongside regular exercise to start. Hoping to get my cholesterol levels down, have a test coming up and think it’ll be high
