If you’re breaking shovels that frequently it might be a technique issue.

Well personally I've only broken hand diggers, I bought a good shovel as my first one, though I bought a few bad hand diggers before the excaliber

You'd be surprised how easynit is to break a shovel trying to pry a root up to get the pulltab under it, a shovel like my phenoix is made out of 100% american steel with strong welds, I can pry on shit all.day and not break it

I stand corrected. If it's doubling as a pry bar than a standard shovel wouldn't cut it.

Beach or park?

If you want to search a beach you should get a multifrequency machine, especially a salt water beach, but I've had single frequency machines freak out on a fresh water beach as well if I got too close to the water

As for if you will find anything worthwhile it depends, does worthwhile mean worth money, or does worth while mean something interesting like.an old relic but not worth anything

You will probably find both, but not very frequently, a lot of days you may only come back with a handful of pennies as your only "good" finds

If you are in a city you chances of finding gold and silver jewellery increase a lot compared to me in a 20k town, but my town happens to be pretty old, and I find old stuff once in a while, as old as 1800s like american civil.war era to like 1950s I consider old and I've found in my town

If you want to find a lot of good stuff, you need to detect every day, if you just detect a couple times a month, you may only find one or 2 good things a year

Its been about a year since I kept up.with all the latest machines, so a couple of the latest machine I don't know much about but some good ones are

Nokta

Findxpro (single) (cheapest machine available.that is actually okay if buying new, but make sure to get the findxpro not the findx, the findx and findxpro series was created by nokta to.compete with bootleg Chinese machines)

Simplex (single) (there's three versions available new, I forget all the diffrences, and there's the simplex plus which is a lot older, but still okay, simplex.plus was my first machine in 2023)

Score (multi) (three versions available (score, double score, triple score) the triple score is the best bang for you buck, or at least was a year ago, the triple score was the cheapest machine available that worked almost as good as noktas (old) flagship model the legend)

The legend
(multi and single) noktas old flagship model, this machine works almost as good as the top end models by minelab and xp, but at like almost half the price, the menus are crowded and convuluted though, might take some time to learn where all the settings are, nokta kept adding settings through updates and crowding out the icons and putting new settings in sub menus of old settinfs

The legend 2
(multi and single) I don't know anything about this machine, its new and I havnt watched any videos about it, as I stopped paying attention to the scene a year ago.like.I said

Minelab

Vanquish (340/440/540) (multi) these were the first budget multifrequency machines, they are not water proof though, so while they would be good in the wet sand, a rouge wave or if you drop it in the drink and its over, they also have very little settings, almost no settings, the 540 has a iron bias setting but i think thats it, oh and they take AA batteries while every other machine I mention in this list has a internal lithium battery

Vanquish (370/470/570) (multi) these are brand new machines, I know they are water proof, but I don't know how they compare to the older vanquish series

Xterra pro (single) this was minelabs budget single frequency machine, some people think there's a conspiracy where its beach mode was secretly multifrequncy cause it seems to work fairly well in wet sand, but I think its just a conspiracy

Xterra elite (multi (and single I think) - this was a newer machine around when I stopped paying attention, it seemed pretty sweet, I probably would have considered it as a first machine if I didn't already have a couple

Equinox (multi and single)  (600/800) (700/900) this was minelabs flagship machine for a long time, but the 600 and 800 had some flaws, like would leak in water, and the coil.ears would.snap, so they came out with the 700 and 900 to fix these issues (the nokta legend was released to compete with the equinox, in fact minelab sued nokta saying they riped off features)

Manticore (multi and single) this is tied for the best machine with the XP deus 2, both machines have a cult following, and both machines perform similarly well

XP

Dues 1 (single) the first wireless machine, its outdated now, but if you could get it cheap second hand its not a bad machine, but it would be hard to get cheap because people don't want to belive its not worth what they paid for it (its still expensive new) the high frequency 9"x5" coil is amazing for playgrounds or other area you need to get next to big steel.equipment

Deus 2 (multi and single) the second wireless machine,  considered tied for the best machine with the minelab manticore, this is the machine I use, it now has a high frequency coil like.its predecessor and it also introduced "stereo" headphones where you can control what you hear in each ear, which I don't really understand and think might be a gimmick, its also the best machine I listed here for diving, you use the bone conducting headphones for underwater diving

Icon machines (I don't know anything about these machines , they are brand new, I'm not even sure if they are both multi and single, but I seen the YouTube paystreak super freak say they are good, so if the price isn't bad for them, they may be a good way to get a wireless machine without paying like.2k)

Machines that might be worth it if very cheap.second hand

Garette machines, I dont really know their models, their new machine "the vortex" had major issues upon release, I think they might have been fixed but I'm not 100% sure so I didn't list the vortex in my list, it was pretty weird, people like calabash digger and iffy signals were pointing out obvious flaws in test gardens and then garret influencers were saying the machine was perfectly fine so overall it left a sour taste in my mouth, older garret machines were okay, but not as good as the ones in my list

Fisher machines, similar to older garret machines they are okay but outdated

Whites machines, you probably wont find these cheap, whites was considered the best company before garret bought them and stopped research and production, so they have a cult following and sell for way more then they are capable of, but if you did get a cheap.one, it will still find stuff today like the fisher or garret, its just old not disabled

I went out today for an hour, I found my first silver quarter, although it was only a 1966, which was the last year they were all 80% silver, halfway through 1967 they started making them 50%

In places where gold occurs you can find nuggets by crevicing with a detector after rains.  Look for slides that have exposed rock.  Look for crevices in the rock.  Run the detector over the crevices.  If you mark something, dig, suck or otherwise capture the sediments in the crevice.  If you find a big nugget, great.  Either way, collect a bucket of material and pan it out at your leisure. Repeat this process until you can fill a vault with gold and dive into it, scrooge mcduck-style

On keto sometimes I naturally forget to.eat, especially after a long walk, I think the exercise tricks my body into cannibalizing my body fat and hunger goes away, but the problem.with forgetting to eat is that it catches up.with me, I try not eat before bed but if I forget to eat I'll pig out on something at like 9 or 10 or 11 at night
